Does anyone here own an ASUS with the Celeron M and the ATI X200 Gaphics Card?? Im just wondering what the gaming performance of the machine is and also if it has the dedicated version of the X200M or does it get all its memory for gaming from the system ram..??

i'll be honest, gaming plus celeron plus x200 = not very fun

the x200 is the integrated chipset, I believe, so it would get its RAM from system RAM.

older games would be OK, but any of the newest FPS games (source-based or Doom3-based) would probably not work well if at all, particularly with the Celeron CPU.

Bigv is pretty much nailing the issue on the head.

If you are looking for a lower level laptop, ASUS is probably not for you. You just wont get the best bang for your buck. Although there are less costly ASUS laptops, it is the higher level laptops that ASUS has to offer that makes them really shine.

Sure cheaper ASUS products exist that are pretty nice, but I feel the best performance per dollar will be in other brands.

Dollar for dollar: Acer, Hp/compaq and dell will definatly give you the best value. Look in the new Acer aspire 5672, the Compaq v2000z as well as others.

    Hope this helps.

Hi. The thing is.. iv been planning on getting a Toshiba Satellite A100 with a Celeron M 1.5/ 512mb DDR2/ and the version of the X200M that has 64mb of memory dedicated and borrows another 64mb from the system memory. The performance of this GPU has been proven to be pretty good (Can play Far Cry and Half Life2 on Medium-High settings at approx 30fps!). But i came accross the ASUS A6 which has a better spec and looks more solid but im wondering if it has the same version of the X200M as the Toshiba A100 or the really bad version that shares all its memory from the system RAM.. Can anyone advise..?

Another thing.. I cant afford anything more than this at the moment and only need a laptop that will play the likes of Alien vs Predator2, Far Cry and Operation Flashpoint.. And the Celeron M is a far FAR better CPU than people may think. They were in a completely different league than the Awful Cereron D..! They are based on the older Pentium M with the only difference being that they have half of the level 2 Cache disabled (1mb vs 2mb), are provided with a 400mhz FSB instead of 533Mhz and have the power management (Speedstep technology) disabled.. In a test with a 1.4 Celeron M and a 1.5 Pentium M. The Celeron M had 90% of the raw power of the Pentium M even though it was 100Mhz faster!. The only real thing your loosing out on with a Cereron M is the battery life :(15-20% less as its always running at max) but i can live with that, especially when im saving 250-300 bucks!
