I just bought the new Asus K40IN (Intel Dual-Core/nVidia G102M) from Staples and it features 'IceCool' design. Its supposed to keep the temperature of the palm rest area below normal body temperature by placing cooling vents in optimal places or something along those lines.
Just wondering if any other Asus notebook has this or is this the first? It seems to work well so far; as Im typing this, its 28 degrees Celsius outside and Im sitting at my desk in my room. The palm rest actually feels cool to the touch - not warm, not body temperature, actually cool.
Havent tested this out while running anything intensive so far, but this really seems like a cool feature - no pun intendedIt would be interesting to see how well it works, since this notebook comes with new low-power nVidia dedicated graphics. Also, it seems to have some sort of advanced energy saving features called Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) and Energy Processing Unit (EPU) which detects power requirements for specific tasks and deploys power accordingly.
Anyone else have this notebook? Doesnt seem like we have a review for it yet.

Yeah, you can be all happy and gloating, but the exhaust vent from my G51 keeps my food warm! Sucker!

Thanks!
This is my first Asus since buying the EeePC 701 over 2 years ago. Im always impressed with innovations from Asus and am proud to own one once again

Agreed. You can really warm up food if you use the boost. -
The K50 also features this as well. My aunt just bought a K50 and I played around with it, very quiet and cool running machine I was amazed at how cool it ran considering its value price.

I see you have the HP DV2 Silvr6.
Very nice thin-and-light 12", especially with the included external optical drive.
That was actually my first choice while I was shopping for a new laptop for school; it had the latest low-voltage Athlon Neo processor from AMD and ATi Radeon dedicated graphics.
Just found it got a bit too hot for me at times - the top of the notebook was fine; it was mainly the bottom which got uncomfortable.
Anway, back on topic...
Im guessing the K50 is slighter larger and more powerful? -
My GF uses my G51's exhaust to warm up the water for our morning coffee.

Wimps. I use it to cauterize wounds.

I wouldn't be surprised. The G51 practically has it's own G-Diffuser.

Glad to see that. I also see my self being an Asus owner one day, in the not so distant future.
Heh my FX warms up my living room(NO, i am NOT joking) -
Well heres and update on the IceCool feature while you guys decide on how best to use that heat exhaust.
I ran Oblivion on the preset high settings (HDR, native 1366x768) for about an hour, and it kept very cool the entire time. Strangely enough, then fan stays quiet even under stress, and when I put my hand at the exhaust, the air coming out was barely warm. Pretty impressive stuff Asus. -

My laptop doesn't get hot enough...
Lol, you have the Todd as your avatar. High five!! -
Ill try to run some tests and maybe write a review when I have the time. But yea, Im still trying to figure out how Asus managed to do this.

Download HWMonitor to see the actual temps.
