Asus K40

Surely there must be some other K40 owners out there - I just got mine and would be interested in your thoughts and observations about yours.
What works good, what doesn't, what you like and don't like.

 

Am I the only one who bought a K40? - did I make that big a mistake?..LOL

I am however, considering buying one (K40IJ-D2) from Newegg.ca. Which specific model is yours? And would you care to write a few sentences on how you like it?

I'm especially interested as well in how good the screen is (colours, view angles etc.)

Mine is the K40IN which was speced as below. I picked it up on sale at the local Staples for $547. You will note it came with Vista but with a free upgrade to Windows 7. I have been waiting for the upgrade disks so I can do a clean install instead of an upgrade before loading anything onto the box.

So far I have been impressed, screen is nice and bright, very clear with excellent color. the viewing angles appear quite good and the only thing I noticed was speaker volume was quite low but there is a bios setting that you can turn up and after doing so am very satisfied with it. Keyboard seems quite solid. Wireless range also seems good - certainly better than the Acer 5044wlmi it is replacing.

hi, I bought my ASUS K40IJ

So far so good, I upgraded the RAM to 4gb but the only problem I got is that I have problems regrading my webcam, it is inverted or image upside down. i don't know how to solve it...

 

I'd start by removing and re-installing the webcam drivers.

Glad you like your K40 - surprised there aren't more owners here.

 

How do you like the screen and the resolution?

 

I'm very happy with mine - good clarity and brightness.

 

am i the only one who regret buying asus k40 series ?

Mine is K40IE, i won't complain about speed cuz 2GB DDR3 is enough for me as i don't use heavy stuff much, but what i hate is the touch pad.

The touchpad is a total crap. Response is slow and the dotted pattern hurts my fingers, its like i can't slide my fingers after a while. Why didn't they make is smooth?? I don't know why Asus went after Elan. Although it said it has Smart-Pad, it actually had "Scrolling Pad" which lacks many essential features, check here ( http://www.emc.com.tw/eng/ap02_01_04_01_tps.asp)

These are my personal views, which may differ from others, so at least try the touch pad before you buy.

 

I have the model with the specs the op posted. I've had it for about a year now, and have had few problems with its. The touchpad is uncomfortable to use as the previous person stated; the buttons are decent at best. Also, I'm not sure if this is just a problem with mine, but the speakers give a large amount of feedback past the 50% volume point. Main selling point for me was the good price and its excellent heat management system- it rarely runs hot (and I've tested it in a tropical climate environment). Graphics are pretty decent for light gaming- nothing recent will run at playable a framerate unless you run at lowest settings.
My system came with Windows Vista Premium, but I have since used the free Windows & Upgrade.
