    Hi all,

I just purchased an K40AB today.
Cost me the equivalent of around $500. (With FreeDOS)

It has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 (QL-64) Processor + ati 4570 gpu.

I've installed Windows 7 RC on it, and so far have just played around with it briefly.

    Using HWmonitor.
I can't seem to detect temperatures of the gpu. (also tried GPU-z, Atitool, Ati Tray Tool)
Average core temps are about 55-65'C, and after playing Deus Ex for about an hour, max temps reached 80'C.
HD temps stay low around 35-40'C.

Are AMD processor temps usually this high? Or am I right in thinking that something is awfully wrong here?

Would drivers have anything to do with these? Or would these high temps surely have something to do with the hardware (ie heatsinks/connections)?

My room temp is average, probably around 25'C. And even when using passive cooling, a small fan blowing the side of my 'elevated' laptop, the average core temps only go down to about 51-55'C. Still high I think, no?

While those temps are a bit high for idle, I only have experience with Intel on laptops, so they may indeed be normal for AMD.

In any case, I would suggest that you clean your fan and heat radiator; see the info booth, the first Maintenance guide explains how you can do that using another notebook as an example.

    HDD temps are fine.

For GPU temps, maybe you should also try Everest.

80 max doesn't look too bad for AMD CPU, but idling should be alittle lower. I think abit of undervolting will help alot. These AMD CPUs undervolts rather well. Have a look at the undervolting guide in the hardware section.
