Around that price range, I'd probably rather sacrifice on the CPU and get the K50ID (15.6", Pentium T4400 2.2GHz, 4096MB, Nvidia GT 320M, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit).

The GPU is a big step up; though with a hundred or two more to spend, you could get an HD 5650. On the other hand, if you won't be gaming, then you could just get something with Intel GMA HD.

You won't get LED backlighting without a significant step up in price.
In any case, you probably don't need the HD 5470 if you won't be gaming. The new Intel GMA HD (the integrated graphics that comes with Arrandale) should be fine, and you'll get longer battery life.

It's hard to say if the Asus K52JR will be good for your needs or not since we have no idea what your expectation/preferences are. It would probably be best if you filled out the FAQ so we can have a better idea of what you're looking for.

Generally speaking, the Asus K series are budget notebooks similar to the HP Pavilion and Dell Inspiron series. Not the best build quality here, but there doesn't seem to be many issues popping up on the forums regarding the K series, so that may be a good sign pertaining to reliability/durability.

I manly buy the laptop for office work, presentations, ms word, internet...video (not editing), playing music...basic stuff. I don't want to replace my desktop with the laptop.

At the moment I have 3 options:

    Dell Inspiron 1564
    Asus K52JR
    HP Pavilion Dm3-1020 EA

But I don't know which one to choose. I would somehow go for the Dell or Aus because they have Core I3 processor...but I like the Hp also...

    Any advice?

Then I'd avoid buying any Asus due to their historic bad reputation regarding their customer service in that region of the world.

Given your situation, I'd probably go with the Dell Inspiron between the 3 choices.

Personally, I can't stand the mirror-finish of the touchpad. It makes tracking extremely difficult and picks up fingerprints like velcro. This single factor is enough to make me turn away since the touchpad (and keyboard) are the only two interfaces between you and the laptop and I feel these are one of the most important factors when making a laptop purchase. However, this is a personal preference and you may actually find the mirror-finish touchpad to your liking. I'd suggest you go to a store and see/test it out for yourself.

Definitely a good point, though the screen is an interface as well and hence equally important, and there is the possibility for other, less direct/useful interfaces.

Went today to the shop and saw one Dell Inspiron 1564, looks really good and finish of the product is nice, clean...interesting design...
I think after all I will buy the Inspiron 1564, after I return my Sony VPC EB1E0E...which is really bad choice...

One other thing...why is everybody complaning about the connectivity issue with the Dell..

    -Sadly, there's no Gigabit Ethernet (just 100Mbit LAN) or Wi-Fi 802.11n (only 802.11 b/g-

What does this mean in terms of speed?
