I'm thinking of buying this Asus K52JT-XC1...

    Costco - ASUS K52JT-XC1 15.6" Laptop Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz 1GB ATI HD 6370 Graphics Blu-Ray ROM

... and am looking for feedback from people who own this machine or a similar one. My questions/concerns:

    - does it run hot easily?
    - what's the build quality like? I've seen reports saying the area around the keyboard will bend or give a bit if you rest your palms on it while typing.
    - and just in general, do you like the machine? I've never owned an Asus and am not very familiar with their general quality.

K53E-B1 can be upgrade to have the same bluray drive and 750gb hard drive. granted it is a core i5 but it is a 2nd generation core i5 vs a first generation core i7. the only thing that is mentionable is the dedicated ati graphics which i care for not. might as well be integrated. that is a good deal if it was 3 months ago before sandybridge.

Ahh, that makes sense. I was wondering why this machine was discounted so heavily - they're probably trying to clear inventory for the ones with Sandy Bridge. Ah well, back to the drawing board for me. I'm actually considering one of the new Macbook Pro's as an alternative, although I'm not excited about dropping 2 grand plus on a laptop. Thanks for the info.
