I've been searching around and I can't find any sort of actual view from the side of the motherboard for this laptop. I'm just trying to find out how the microphone jack is actually attached. Basically I'd just like to know whether the port for the microphone jack is soldered right onto the motherboard or if there is some sort of port which the microphone jack then plugs into then fits into the side of the case. I would appreciate any information from anyone, if this is an easy fix I would like to repair the faulty microphone jack on my own. If it's not on the other hand, guess I'll have to send it out to Asus for repair.

If I remember correctly, all headphone/microphone jacks are soldered onto the board. This is standard even on desktop boards, whether you use the onboard sound or an add-on sound card.
