I think I've narrowed my search for a new laptop (see what I wanted here) to the K72Jr at newegg here

    Some Specs:
    CPU Type Intel Core i5 430M 2.26GHz
Screen 17.3" 1600x900 LCD Features LED backlight
    Memory Size 4GB DDR3 1066
    Hard Disk 500GB 7200rpm
    Optical Drive DVD Super Multi
Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 1GB Dedicated Memory

I'm concerned as this is such a new model there isn't much info out there about it. It is listed as a 7200rpm hdd but according to the Asus site it's not available with a 500GB 7200rpm? The K72Jr-A1 is also selling online and it definately has a 5400rpm so I hope the X1 model does indeed have the 7200.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or insight into the K series notebooks since there doesn't seem to be much info available and they clearly are not a very popular series (or maybe just too new??)

Any insight some from veteran Asus users would be very much appreciated before I invest in one! Thanks

Crap resolution. Get one with FULL HD, since it's 17.3"!

it is a reasonable buy. The price is competetive and if offers ad core i5. for the price i think it dominates in terms of performance most notebooks in the same size and price range. this forum is not huge on K series. G series dominates here

My N71JQ has 1600x900 resolution and it is not a "crap resolution". The N71JQ is a 17.3" notebook.

    1600x900 is a great resolution for a 17" display.

thanks @Geared2play - it seems this whole forum is either G or N series discussions so i was just wondering how the K series compares. Obviously it's not as high end, but I'm not a gamer so I don't need that and only really want to spend $1000 on my new laptop.

I've previously had an Acer 15" and an hp 17" and been mostly happy with both but I'm thinking this Asus K series would be a step up quality wise - am I right? Especially in comparison to the Acer 7740G-6969 that I took back after only having a week.

@.Michael - I agree the brief time I had the Acer 17.3" 1600x900 I thought it looked great - I could tell a difference between it and my current 1440x900 screen

My main concern is the discrepancy between newegg and the asustek site about it being available with a 500GB 7200rpm hdd
