    Hi,

For a friend of mine, I try to find a disassembly guide for K93SV (or X93SV).

Please, let me know if you have such one. :)

How to take off the keyboard ? There could be some screws, where are they ?

    Thanks in advance.

There's generally a set of screws underneath marked with a <K> that have to be released for the keyboard to come off, in addition to the holding clips that reside at the top of the keyboard.

As for the disassembly guide, as I've written before .... if you can't find one on Google you are probably on your own. Asus doesn't release these publically, and most tech shops won't turn around and mail you a copy of theirs. You might try sending a PM to Ken @ GenTechPC, however - sometimes he has these lying around and is willing to share :).

I've tried to send a PM to Ken, but their inbox is full :(

I disassembled it bottom, and it is quietly simple there. U can unmount BDROM, both HD, 2 banks of ram and thats all. Other 2 banks of ram and the pci-express erxpansion slot and wireless/bluetooth are under the keyboard, then I can't realize how to unmount the keyboard assembly.

Please if u know something before me, lemmy knows.

BTW, veru koool (in all senses) workhorse!!!

Ok, I surely will. I'm really pleased about this notebook, really rox, screen quality very good, with splendid utility and so on. And the 3.5 inch HD slot really make it a lot expandable! It is so fast! One day I maybe will upgrade the VGA card: the GT540M is maybe the only less rated component in this assembly

There is a known software problem with this notebook and it is common to all Asus notebooks! It is Power4Gear running only with Administrative privilegies. It is stupid and maybe one day someone should tell Asus to fix this problem. Do u know someone at Asus? He/she could maybe take care of this stupid problem, why should we run Asus notebooks as adminin just for Power4Gear?

Too bad! Ken, do the wi-fi module is under the keyboard? Becouse I need to access it (I want to change the card), so before disassembly the keyboard I want to be sure. Is there also a spare mini-pci slot to add some card in?

Thankx again for your precious help!

Thankx again Ken! Whats the blue number points in the pictures? And looking at the pix, it seems to me there is no extra mini-PCI slot for expansions. Am I correct?

    No problem. :)

Forget the blue number, it was from the disassembly guide showing how to remove the screws and top case.

the red circle is where the wifi card is.

Non of the Asus laptops has extra mini-PCI slots anymore.

I see... I changed the wi-fi card with no problem. I had an Atheros wi-fi stock (no bluetotooth) and I changed it with a Intel wireless N-1300 card with integrated bluetooth and it works like a charm. Very easy the keyboard disassembly, thankx to your disassembly guide.

So if I want to add a tuner card, the only option, I suppose, is to add an external USB stick. Or am I wrong?

Another question. I want to upgrade the DVD RW with a BDRW. Do u think I can take off the front plastic part from the old drive and attach it to the new LG drive I think to buy? U know, the curvy part on stock DVD RW is proprietary, so if I can attach it to the new drive, II can better adapt the new drive to the K95SV design.

I ask before try to experiment and maybe crash the drive :-(((

Yes if you want to add TV tuner then you will have to get a USB one.

The front plastic bezel fits on any 12.7mm drive also make sure buy the SATA interface drive.

Is there any disassembly guide for the Bezel? Looking at the drive, it seems to me there iss no place where I can take off the bezel. If I push, I'm worried to crash the bezel.

BTW, when I'm done with the optical drive, the last update I will perform on this wonderfull notebook (I payed it really cheap here in Italy, under € 650, is to install a backlight keyboard. Do u think I could find a compatible illuminated keyboard for this notebook? With the BDRW and the illuminated keyboard it could be my perfect notebook.

PS: I put a Crucial M4 128 GB SSD drive as boot drive and it boot in under 15 seconds! Sooo fast.

Asus doesn't provide diassembly guide for the bezel but I do. :)

I don't know what kind of keyboard Asus use on this model, it hasn't been release in US yet.

Thankx again Ken! You are perfect, very clear disassembly guide.

I'm in the process to order the BDRW.

My two options are this drives:

    BR Blu-ray RW SATA // DVD-RW / DL / RAM LG BT10N Black blk

BR Blu-ray RW SLIM SATA // DVD RW / DL / RAM / SONY Optiarc BD-5740H Black blk

The first is less expansive (€ 80 against € 100).

Which one should I choose? Or maybe is there around a better choice u would recommand me?

Related with the keyboard: please if u can help me with the illuminated one when u can have the notebook in your hands or get more infos, please u are welcome.

When is it planned it will be released in USA too?

LE: Is there a special tool/way to remove the small caps over the screws without scratching them?
Already tried with a needle, but couldn't remove the caps and already started scratching them.

    Hey ;)

    @ciripian
Just have a look to post #20, page 2 or 3.

Please, can someone tell if it is possible to choose the starting drive, in the bios ?
Is there a string like "Boot Option Priorities" ?
In case of a SSD in 2.5" place, Windows should be on the SSD instead of the 3.5" HDD.
    Thanks

Since it is now more than 3 months later than this post

Any news on the "complete disassembly guide"?

On a related note does anyone know the "LCD screen model number" of the screen used on the Asus K93SV.

    hello i think it's a typo: it's not 1300 but 1030:
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030 Product Brief
But there are others better card than this one now, such as ones this BT 4.0 and maybe dual channel real 300mbs on 5ghz card. I'm not sure if the port into the K93S for the wireless is mini PCI or mini PCI-E, or if those are compatible and same format. I'm not sure.

By the way did you managed to use the USB3.0 Asus usb charger+ to let the USB3 port to charge event when the laptop is shutdowned?
I just cant start the control pannel that we can see here:
