I don't know why. Its not over heated because I have bought a laptop cooler and I can feel its not heated.
It just freezes completly, I don't even realise its crashed untill the mouse doesn't move on the screen. I try alt + tab and ctrl alt and delete and it doesn't move.
I have to hold the power button in for 5 seconds and then restart the laptop.
It happens about 3 times a day and its reallly annoying. I don't know why. I have no adware, I have avast anti virus and recently checked all of my laptop with tune-up utilities and repaired all of the errors.
I have 3GB of RAM and 360GB or hard drive which Is not used up.
Its sooo annoying, anyone know what I can do to stop this?

Does this happen even if you leave the laptop alone, just idling? Leave the laptop on overnight and see if it crashed during the night. Do this a few times to be sure.
If it still crashes on idle, next try booting in safe more and leaving it on overnight again a few times. If it still crashes, it's a hardware problem.
If either of the tests stops the crashes, it's a software problem. -
I've left it for a few hours before. I went out for the day and didn't realise I had left my laptop on. I was gone for a couple of hours. I came back and it was working perfect, wasn't even crashed.
It seems to happen when I'm doing something on it. e.g browsing the internet and suddenly, it just crashes. -

hi there,
a question for you:
when it freezes, if your sound is on, what happens to the sound?
eg. if you are watching youtube, does the sound just stop or does it repeatedly play the same 2 syllables?
also, when it freezes, check to see if your HDD indicator light is flashing.
next it it crashes, just wait for 1 minute (yes, a whole minute), and see if the "freeze" resolves itself. -
No it just goes silent. And I have left it for about 5 minites once to see if it goes back to normal, and still.. nothing -
Norton Anti-Virus was the thing that caused all my computers to crash all the time, or slow to the point of not moving. I had heard all the usual rumors that Norton could make your computer “slow down” but over the years it has caused mine to almost completely stop, to the point of being almost completely unusable, it was so bad, and each time when I remembered and took Norton off, my problems magically went away. The Toshiba independent repair shop (third party) actually once upon a time put in a new power supply and mother board and my problems quickly came back so he told to take Norton off and that fixed it, no lie.
Now I don't use a firewall, I don't have anti-virus and when the garbage on my computer gets too bad, like spending too much time on YouPorn will do, I just do a clean system reinstall from a disk image and I am back to 100% (knock on wood.)
It would not hurt to clean the dust out of your system just for good luck anyway. Not to mention re-seating your CPU with high quality thermal paste if you are comfortable with that.
Plus I think we all need at least two computers. -
Just keep completely backed up in case your HDD or CPU or Power Supply or something else is on the way out. My Power Supply and HDD on my HP Media Center were replaced recently “under warranty” after telephone diagnosis and thankfully my warranty is expired since when the HDD went out several months after replacement I just replaced it on my own, which was not very expensive and beat h*ll out of waiting around for all the third party clowns to show up, after the parts arrived by UPS. The two failed in sequence and the computer was down for about SIX WEEKS. And guess what, the replacement HDD had a sticker date TWO YEARS OLD, which in retrospect is not so surprising since all those service plans that I have checked into allow them to use any third party they want and to use “reconditioned” parts. And so now Dell advertises a plan to help customers recycle their used computers and parts, I guess to get more “reconditioned” pieces to use in their service plans.

Try an overnight run of memtest to see if your RAM is dying.
-
tried it overnight. it was still ok in the morning.
isn't there any way I can see the cause of this error?
The laptops only 2 months old. -
most probably a hardware problem, does it freeze while starting up an application or using the application for a few minutes then freezes? there is really no way you can see the cause of the error, unless Microsoft provides you solutions and reports the problem of the error. Since its only 2 months old, i suggest you should try take it to a computer store to get it checked out professionally.

type " reliability and performance monitor" in windows start, start search,
on reliability monitor, you will find all the past system failures.
likely its cuased by bad drivers, some intel drivers do cause crashes. -
I did the Reliability and performance monitor process above have printscreened my results.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with hardware failures. -
what about your registry? has it been cleaned? if not get this.

Here is the kind of things its "not safe" to remove.
They all seem to come from the D drive (Which is my DVD drive)
http://i40.tinypic.com/acyti.jpg
What do I do?
I've removed the 1347 ones which were safe to remove.
also. could this have been the problem? might it stop freezing now? -
yes i have seen registry errors cause crashing. it might stop.
i always clean everything. I have never had it cause a problem. but if you are not comfortable doing so then don't. if that doesn't stop it from crashing.does it crash at a certain time? IE. like starting an app. or accessing a file. this could indicate a bad sector. and they are most of the time unrepairable. -
sorry to bring this thread back. but its still happening and really getting on my nerves.
It just happens randomly.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but whenever I do a ccleaner scan after every restart, it finds "Obsolete key software" - ATK0100.
Located in HKLM\software\ATK0100. and I delete it every time and it just comes back. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Ah, that gives us a place to start.
ATK0100 is one of Asus' main hotkey/utility drivers, and ATK driver issues or conflicts are known to be a cause of intermittent system glitches, freeze, etc.
Try reinstalling all of the ATK drivers from your driver CD. -
Thanks, will do..
-
Might want to check the Asus website to see if there are any updated drivers. I think there were new ones when I checked for my G50VT.
-
Ok, done that. It told me to restart my computer and it was working fine, but then froze.
I am going to reinstall Vista, see if this helps.. -
So far so good. Not crashed once.
*Touch wood* -

which model of Asus ?
-
-
I also have the exact same problem where it will crash while in a game either bsod or just freeze playing the same two syllables of sound over and over and force me to hold the power button for 5 seconds to get it to restart,
I have a asus N61ja, tonight when i get home ill try the pushing down on the hard drive area and see if that unfreezes it, if not ill have to organise an ra with asus as its only a week old. -
How did you get on, did you find a solution? My laptop is now so bad I can no longer use it. It must be a hardware fault but unless it's a hard drive fault i'm not sure it's worth my while getting it fixed as it's a couple of years old now.
Thanks -
Which laptop is it? Maybe you also have the problem with creative audio software freezing.
Models like G51 and G73 are affected by it, so uninstalling Creative audio software and Sound Audigy software/drivers eliminates the problem. -
thanks for your response. I have the F5 which has Realtek audio device.
I´ve tried disabling the audio drivers as well as drivers for dvd, pci express card slot and memory card reader but it still locks up. It starts to lockup when the windows is loading on the green loading bar. having a small (5mm) wedge under the front left corner enable me to press down slighly on the right hand front and get it running again.
In safe mode the laptop runs fine with no lockups.
If the extra info helps to solve this then I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hey guys im experiencing the same problem for 2 days or so.
I have Asus N61ja laptop.
When i turn on the pc it randomly freezes for 2-3 seconds, mouse can be moved meanwhile but after 2-3 seconds mouse and sound also freezes.Sound is like stucking or idk how you call it but what i can say is pc is not letting me do anything except turning it off by holding power button. When it freezes after freezing of the mouse screen turns gray and again after few seconds screen shuts down, pc keeps working while screen is not i checked the hdd light its on but not flashing.I tried many ways to fix this.First of all i thought it was a graphic driver issue because i installed a new windows 7 ultimate and my ati hd 5730 driver is kinda hard and crap to find and even install it.Whatever i tried few drivers i still had the problem. After that i installed my old graphic card driver which i had when i got the computer but i was still having the same problem. And then i thought maybe it was a bug of the windows i installed, after that i planned to use recovery.I recovered my oldest windows with all drivers and , it seemed like working fine.I installed my game Heroes Of Newerth asap but after 2nd minute pc froze again and i figured there is nothing i can do to solve this anymore so i wrote this.
My laptop is 6 months old or so, im gonna send my laptop to repair if i can't fix this with help of you guys so im counting on you, thanks!
