I'm looking for a new laptop and this ASUS one seems like it's way too good to be true.
The thing has an ATI X1700 which must be awesome, 1 gig of ram (can be upgraded to 2 G easily), has vista premium, and a 2 ghz core 2 duo all for under $1,300. I've been looking at laptops and this price just seems like it should be like $1,700 or higher. Here's the link if you are wondering.
I'm wondering if i should just go ahead and buy the thing.

Is that the A8JP? I think the A8JS is the next model in that sequence. Correct me if I am wrong. Because the A8JP is the older model, it is much cheaper to buy. I cannot find the A8JP with Windows Vista, if you can find it with Vista this is not a problem. Otherwise you are buying dated software. Finally I think it has a similar case to the A8JS, Plastic. Plastic is cheap.
I do not know much about that particular ASUS laptop. Sorry about that. -

From what I read. I prefer the A8JP, but this is my opinion. The F3JP has a terrible screen. I want a minimum of a WSXGA+ screen on a 15.4" laptop, the F3JP has a WXGA screen. The A8JP is a good laptop at a similar price, but it has a WXGA+ screen on a 14.1".

That's quite a good deal. I'd suggest you purchase it before Newegg runs out of stock

It's the F3JP, good value notebook. I think there are 1-2 reviews on the F3 on this site.
-
The F3 is the 15.4" version of the A8 series.
-
The F3Jp shell is similar to the Z96Js. There are a few changes here and there like the touchpad, but the general frame and feature set is about the same.
-
If i were you i would see if i could find a F3Jp similar to the AK031M http://www.prisindex.dk/Products/Listprices.asp?ID=261367
2Gb Ram
15,4, 1680x1050
160gb
x1700
9 cell/7200 Mah
A bit more attractive. -
True looks almost exactly like the early model Z96JS before they removed the docking port and went for the cheaper backing. Touchpad/keyboard and lights are different, and it has diff ports and positions. Looks good though as a system, too bad aobut the low res tho...

I basicly bought the same book etc. i got this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220141
only difference i see is the screen. I'll say i love my notebook it's my first one i have ever owned. always built my own desktop till i just finally got sick of them.
I love this thing tho, i got a nice wood board i finished and i just sit in the recliner and lay back play WoW. The machine don't really get hot at all. Runs the game with awesome graphics in my opinion. I took vista off of it tho. I personally didn't like vista it was pretty lol but when i tried gaming on it the games ran like crap, so i went back to xp and got the drivers off there site burned them to a disk on vista. Then deleted vista and put my own copy of xp pro back on it.
I'm very happy with it not sure about that wxga. but i love the wsxga+. -
Yes that is a real/sweet deal.
-
It's a good deal because Asus rocks
And no, it's not too good to be true, Asus sells top of the line notebooks for bottom of the barrel prices. -

Plastic laptops tend to be cheaper. If you have a drunken roommate or you are a klutz and drop your book bag with its 25 lb load before you realize you left your valuable laptop in it, which was the end of that expensive Texas Instruments calculator. You might want to upgrade that to the ASUS business line.

If you buy a sleeve and use a padded bag, and you'll be in pretty good shape.
Mine fell (in it's bag, with several books, a cooling pad, and several CDs) 4 feet onto a wood floor - no damage to anything.
Just because something is plastic doesn't mean it's "cheaper" - and most laptops are mostly plastic. Anything can break if you don't take a few simple precautions. -

Most consumers prefer metal laptops. All premium laptops are metal that range from MacBook Pro titanium to ASUS V2JE Magnesium Alloy. It weighs about the same as plastic and it is much sturdier. If you handle your laptop in a responsible way, it should not make a difference. However, I am a college student. That means I am everything except responsible.
