Main advantage: less heat under CPU stress. Battery and heat under idle/low tasks is not improved because Core (2) Duos cannot be undervolted at their lowest multiplier.

I'll be taking it overseas for gaming where the ambient temp indoors is quite high due to the lack of airconditioning.

I'm looking at purchasing this laptop, but I have 3 concerns:

    1. In the pics on newegg, it looks like the eSATA/USB combo port is there, but eSATA is not listed in the spec. Is it truly there and fully functional?

    2. I'm needing a beefy laptop for programming and data conversion tasks (the more power the better) and like the idea of the WSXGA+ (1680x1050) screen, but not sure if it'd be too tiny for working on code. Of course I could change font size in my editors and I like the idea of the screen real estate without going to a 17". Would anyone care to comment on its resolution, or maybe even the resolution of the WXGA+ (1440x900) models for programming and having multiple windows open?

    3. I'll be using this laptop as a mobile digital audio workstation as well and will be using it to do multitrack audio recordings in studio settings where the room is already treated for sound. I've read some say that this laptop is hot/loud and others that say it's quite cool/quiet. I need some reassurance that hard drive and fan noise is not going to bleed into a microphone that's 6 feet away. I can do a few things to reduce the noise floor if it makes some noise, but if I can hear that it's whirring at 6 feet, I don't think it'll be usable. Recording audio isn't particularly processor intensive, it's just recording data from my firewire interface, so I wouldn't expect the fans to ramp up. Any comments on this front would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks!

I received this laptop a few days ago. I really like it, especially the beautiful screen.

I have one annoying problem. The mouse pad stops working occasionally. I will now try the latest drivers from Synaptic and see if the problem is solved.

    Anyone else experienced this?

Have you accidentally activated the multimedia mouse pad by tapping on MODE? If it's activated the mouse pad will be illuminated.

The 3650 is 10% slower than the 9500. To play COD 4 smoothly at 1440x900 I overclock the 9500 to 544/1304/488, and the CPU to 2.8 GHz. The best one here is the M50Sv-A1.

After reading a lot of reviews on the m50, i just ordered one.

    specs :

    Asus M50SA-AK054G

    Intel Core2Duo T9500 ( 2,6 Ghz)
    4096Mo DDR2 667
    500Go SATA 5400rpm
    TFT 15.4'' GT WSXGA+(1680x1050)
    BluRay-REC
ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 1024MB DDR RAM

it was the best, and most expensive version of the m50 i could find. Should get it within 2-4 days, can't wait!

the hd3650 beats the 9500m gs in many games at a higher resolution. Even in 3dmark06, at 1440x900, both stock, the hd3650 beats it
