Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy a new laptop, I'm a college student and looking for something to replace my Dell Inspiron 8600 (used it for 5 years). I'm looking for a notebook that excels in all areas, including gaming. The M50VM seems like the perfect fit.

However, I'm having trouble deciding between the A1 or B1. The only difference appears to be the processor. Is the B1 worth the extra $100+? Which did you get and why?

Also, are you experiencing keyboard lag? I've read about it and it worries me.

Finally, are you pleased with your A1 or B1?

    Thanks much.

Nice choice, I don't own a Asus M50, but I came very close, was in the same position as you.

No, do not pay an extra $100.00 USD for the 2.5ghz 6mb cache Asus unless the resolution is much higher.

But you will probably disregard what I have to say and listen to the people that own them, so:

The processor is the only difference between the A1 and B1. If you go to Asus page (linked below) and scroll to the bottom you'll find the differences between the models listed.
    http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=132&l3=672&l4=0&model=2383&modelmenu=2

    The B1 is:
    Intel Core2 Duo Processor T9400: 2.53GHz, 1066MHz, 6MB L2 cache

    The A1 is:
    Intel Core2 Duo Processor P8400: 2.26GHz, 1066MHz, 3MB L2 cache

The 0.27Ghz difference isn't significant, but the extra 3MB L2 cache of the B1 may make a difference (depending on what you are running).

In another thread it was suggested that the 8400 may get slightly longer battery life.

(Unless you're going with the 1440x900 for a specific reason you may want to consider stepping up to a B2 with its 1680x1050 resolution. GT Buzz for example sold his B1 and bought a B2 because of the screen.)

I own a B2 that I'm very pleased with, so I think you'll probably be pleased with the M50Vm regardless of which revision you go with.

I just bought M50VM-A1 and I love it!
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=301045

So far I have had no problems, knocks on wood.... LOL
Keyboard seems to be good and playing games is awesome!
I was also thinking about the B1 but for the price and only difference in processor, I said no and went for the A1.

Well good luck with ur decision and im sure u will love it!
