    Hello,

I've had my Asus M50VM-A1 for almost a month now but i've noticed that its emitting a high frequency buzzing noise that I can hear (sounds like a mosquito flying by both ears). Its really annoying and I think its starting to give me headaches.

It seems to go away in battery saver mode but comes back when I switch to another mode. I disabled the video card but it was still there so I don't think thats the problem. Anyone else having this issue? I've read that other laptops have this problem and some have easy fixes. Is there one for this Asus?

I really like this laptop but if this can't be fixes I'll have to get rid of it.

    Thanks

Do you have something plugged in the USB port closest to the audio out jack?

I have a USB mouse plugged into the port behind the optical drive so its far from the audio out jack. I get the same noise even with it unplugged.
From my experimenting its the strongest noise when the laptop is idle in the high performance mode making me think it has something to do with chipset/cpu.

Is the buzzing noise coming from your speakers or the CPU?

Its really hard to tell but I do notice that when i play music with winamp and turn the volume all the way down the noise goes down a bit as if the speakers are to blame.. any idea on how i can test to be sure?
    Thanks

I had a similar problem - bugged the hell outta me. Check if it only occurs at a certain fan speed. For me, the lowest fan speed made a super annoying high-pitched whining noise. Try turning to battery saver mode, wait for the fan to stop - there should be no noise. Now, turn on performance mode and wait for the fan to start spinning - that's when my notebook would make that whining noise. Then run something really cpu-intensive, like a benchmarking app, and see if the sound either stops or gets quieter when the fan starts to spin faster.

Basically, for me it was like this: (HPW = High pitch whine)

    OFF - No HPW
    Low Speed - HPW
Medium Speed - Much less HPW, more normal fan noise
High Speed - A bit more HPW than Med. speed, but drowned out more by louder fan noise.

That was the case with an F8Va I had. Sent it to ASUS, they replaced the thermal assembly, the noise was muuuuch quieter, to the point where it doesn't bother me. On the other hand, they did return the notebook misassembled, so I had to send it back again. And now that I got it back, the HDD started crashing, and the middle of the keyboard makes an annoying clicking sound, so I have to send it back yet again... but the noise CAN be fixed.

My M50VN makes a kind of humming noise at certain screen brightnesses - maybe this could explain why it only happens in modes other than battery saving.

My M50Vn only just today started making a high pitched sound out from the headphone port. This after having it for a couple of months. It only happens when:
    - plugged into power and at least 1 of the 2 usb ports next to the headphone port is being used

If I unplug from power or I have no devices in those 2 usb ports it goes away.

It also goes away temporarily when I open the volume controls/microphone controls. But when I exit out of them it starts back up after a few seconds. Also seems to go away when I play a sound from the speakers using some program.

And the noise is affected by moving windows around on the screen etc. Big change in noise especially when scrolling through pages in a web browser.

Muting the microphone or disabling it does not seem to make it go away (besides which I do not know from control panel if it is refering to microphone jack or built-in microphone).

Anyone have any ideas? (to the OP, it seems I have the same problem as yourself, so I doubt it is your speakers)

The asus 1008ha I received has the same issues. Nothing plugged in. Is this considered a warranty issue?
