    Hey Guys,

I have a 4 year old Asus M51SN, the display of the laptop stopped working today.

I have it plugged into a external display via the VGA slot and the external display stopped picking up a signal.

Disconnecting it from the VGA, the laptop screen won't turn on without a back light or anything. However, it still boots up as it should with the sounds and fans, it's just the display that's gone.

    Is it a GPU failure?

Does anyone know how to switch from a dedicated GPU to the integrated GPU unit on an Asus?

There isn't an integrated GPU on the M51SN.

The NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS may be defective, you can try finding a used replacement card. At this point it may be easier to pull the hard disk to save your data, and part out the machine or sell it for parts.
