hi, i have some problems with my laptop and im posting here to see if anyone could help me?

first of all, my M51Sn refuses to accept any form of external storage. i can plug in a flash drive and it wont acknowledge i plugged it in. also on My Computer, my cd drive and other things like the card reader have disapeared. When i put any kind of cd in, the drive makes the noise like its reading it, then quits, and it wont run the cd. i think its some sort of driver problem but im not sure. any suggestions?

It sounds like Windows is not recognising the devices. Open the Device Manager and look for them. They will be there with different icon (from memory it is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it). They might not be listed in the correct place. If you find them, open the properties and see what is shown. Or, right-clicking on them and selecting enable (I only have "disable" on mine so I assume if there is a problem you will have "enable"). Then run the "Scan for hardware changes" from "Action" menu or reboot to let Windows automatically find them. Windows should already have the drivers, but it might ask to search for them.

If that doesn't fix it, then it might be a hardware failure.

Are these recent issues or has this been happening since day 1 of your purchase?
I would try and perform a system restore back to the day your system was working properly.

Or backup the data and do a full Windows recovery using the recovery disks or partition (F9 during boot for the latter). That should take care of any software issue.

If the issues are still there after the recovery, they are likely to be hardware-related.

Also make sure you do not have your USB controllers or other devices turned off from the BIOS.
