If you own M5N you probably know about the fan noise problem as well. Today I found out that in Taiwan they are actually letting people replace their M5n's fan for free if you are still under warrenty(due to the large amount of complianing). It's been a while since i visited this forum so i don't know if anybody brought it up yet. But I know couple people from taiwan that had their fan replaced and they told me they are very quite and of course much better then the old fan. I think im going to call Asus(North american) tomorrow and ask them about this. But before i do that has anybody heard anything like this? or is this a old news to everybody who's been keeping up with the development of M5N??

Wow, that would be fantastic. That's still a real frustration for me (and everyone who hears it comments on it!). I wonder if it'll apply in the UK?

The fan noise issue was the reason I went with the S5 instead of the M5. It will be interesting to hear if people who aren't in Taiwan end up getting the same benefit of a fan replacement.

Well... I told you that I took an S5 fan and put it in my M5 and that calmed the noise down a bit (but it also puts out probably 1/2 the CFM).

Anyway...... the problem really isn't the fan and it's the bios as we all know.... Bringing these M5's in and swapping the fan is crazy when a bios update can take care of it....

So ---- I guess the bottom line is, I don't believe it. The only fan they can swap it with is the S5 fan and it wasn't an easy little swap.... especially if you're talking about swapping it for everyone. I guess I'll beleive this one when I see it.

I just called Asus up about 30 minutes ago. I told them about what they are doing in Taiwan and ask them if they will be doing the same thing for people in US they say that they are doing it(it's just that they don't have the parts right now). the want me to go back in a 1 month and by then they should have the parts. yea PROPortable you might be right the whole swapping thing might be rather useless, I guess i'll wait and call them back to see if this is for real or if Asus(north american) is just leading gme around the circle. I'll come back with the reply in a month. Until then...

did they say what the new fan was? Is it just the S5 fan, and if so, do they say if there's a decrease in performance as a result?

did they have any info about a new bios?

no clue - but the s5 fan isn't as noisy.. it has 1/2 the amount of fins on it and that results in less air being pushed through it.

You know what...... there you go again another personal attack. That's fine, you can think what you will, but go post somewhere else. I was made a moderator by the administrators to keep people like yourself from ruining this forum (not the other way around). So if you don't like it, find another forum.
