Hi I am new to this forum and I am not sure if anyone can help. My one year old M6's battery light flickers when the PS is plugged in but does not start. I am prepared to buy a new battery: I presume some battery power is needed for the PS to work? Is this symptom likely to be due to a dead battery?

Jonny5 need more info please. Flicker? Does the battery hold a charge. How long does the charge last on average low and hi? does it ever stock flickering? Have you tried playing with the plug in the back.? Does touching it or playing with it make the light flicker?

Yeah, flashing rapidly and weakly, as opposed to the confident beaming flash I used to get when plugging in the PS. :)

Well, I haven't been able to start the notebook up at all since this problem, so either the battery is holding no charge at all, or the issue is separate from the battery. Prior to this prob the battery would last OK, although the time btwn recharges was getting shorter. :(

I have left it overnight and the flickering hasn't stopped at all. I have wiggled plugs to no avail. Removing the PS plug or the battery stops the flicker-then the notebook is completely inert. Otherwise it never stops

Thanks. Any other ideas? Does it sound like an effed battery? SHouldn't they gradually die? If the battery is dead, shouldn't I be able to use the notebook with AC power?

    Cheers

... yeah that battery isn't charging. If the battery is under a year old, Asus will cover it for you. Otherwise, you're going to want a new battery.

Interestingly, someone on the asus vip forum reckons it's a dead motherboard, based on the fact that the green LED in the PSU flickers once plugged into the notebook (and is solid before being plugged in). Any comments?

Take out the battery and start up your laptop. If it doesn't start then yes maybe it's your motherboard, but I thought you were just asking about your laptop not starting up purely on battery power.

If the brick is flickering - it looks like you've got a problem there.......... that led is just based on power coming in and going out of the brick...... shouldn't flicker when you plug it into the system....
