It seems there will bethere is a Asus M70 in the make. It will come with a 17" WUXGA screen, ATI HD3600 graphics, T7700 (maybe even T9300 or T9500) cpu, and a lot of diskspace (1TB).
Since I want to use the notebook for transcoding videos (using the ATI GPU), this could be the ideal system for me. Has anyone more information about this beast, when it will be for sale, maybe even pricing?

a little too early for this. Keep in mind what you see announced may never make it to the states. expect to see more concrete info towards the end of the quarter. As i recall m70 is the new barebone however it has not yet been confirmed

Well, I'm in Europe (Netherlands), and it was mentioned here as well at the beginning of this month. I can't imagine it would not be for sale in North America, after all that is the biggest market. Europe is a big market as well, but national distributors have their own policy about which notebook to sell and in which configuration, and which not to sell. Usually in small countries not all models are sold. Due to differences in keyboard layout as well as different language versions for Windows, it is not so simple either to buy a notebook in one of the bigger European countries. The M70s would be a relatively expensive notebook, so there is a good chance it will not be available in many European countries due to the low number of expected sales. You don't have that problem in the states.
I don't know if the M70s will be a barebone, it seems to be targeted as a high end multimedia notebook, and that is what I'm looking for. Now if it would support the coming quad core mobile cpu's as well, that would be magnificent. Then you could replace the dual core by a quad core cpu, and since encoders are multi thread applications, this would almost double the performance. -
Keep in mind that Asia and Europe are somewhat strongre markets for ASUS than US, at this point.
Also, in the Netherlands, I usually see all the "big name" ensemble models in the stores, and besides those also many consumer/budget variants that I don't hear about in the states. -
After reading many press reports about the M70s, I found one that told me that the renewed 15" M50s with ATI 3650 graphics should arrive in February, and the 17" M70s is due in March.
In all press releases there is only talk of the T7xxx CPUs, but I hope and expect that the T9xxx Penryns are also supported. -
Well I expect they at least plan BIOS updates to support the newer CPUs. I say this because I looked up the M5 laptop on the ASUS website, it was listed as supporting the T9XXX series.
Don't get your hopes too high up with those release dates, it seems ASUS are often late. -
Hi
Just looked up on cnet.uk . they have done a review already on the M70 , comes with I think standered T93 2.5 GHZ , optional 1 TB HDD , ATI 3650 , 4GB RAM and 17 inch screen (1900/1200) out in the UK at end of April at 1599 pounds sold at Micro Anvika (£1 = 2US roughly)
Did come with a HD-DVD drive (?????????????????????????)
but now will ship with blue-ray combo as a result of feedback according to CNET.UK -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
