I just saw this notebook at NewEgg for the first time. It is $1599.99. The Asus M70VM-X1 is now $1399.99. The only difference I see is the Vn has the NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT 1024mb card while the Vm has the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 512mb card. Is there $200 worth of difference in the video cards? I have been watching the Asus laptops there and am very close to buying one. I only do light gaming, but is the 9650 GT more future proof?
Any comments, opinions or advice greatly appreciated. This will be my first laptop. Thanks.
I just noticed the Vn has Vista 64 bit OS, but the Vm just says Vista premium, which I assume is the 32 bit version.

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Light gaming? no, you don't need the GT - your existing needs won't notice the difference between the gpus.
Future proof? if you don't anticipate your needs going beyond light gaming over the next couple of years, and you would prefer to save $200, then take the GS. Else, if you have the money and don't mind spending it, do so - the card will be more functional at a slightly higher level in 2-3 years' time compared to the GS. -
get th gs imo

It depends on the type of games you play, however I think the 9600M GS is good enough.

Thanks for the replies. I play Everquest, Company of Heroes, and some adventure games. I have an Asus ATI 3870 card in my game box at home and
have no problems. I haven't used an Nvidia card for several years, so I am not really famiiar with all their different cards. I find their model numbering, such as 9600, 9650, GT, GS, GTS, etc., somewhat confusing. The 64 bit OS is also a consideration, since it will make use of the 4gb of ram. -
Chaz in his "The Mobile Graphics Card Info Page" classify the 8700GT as the same 9650M-GS. And he is right.
But this 9650GT does not have the specs complete in the Nvidia page.

It will be interesting if Gentech or other of the Asus sellers know that this GPU upgrade is part of the refresh of the M70 Series. -

Hi, I'm really new in all this... I've been reading and reading for days everywhere to learn about laptops/performance/price/etc and I think the best offer is the ASUS M70 Series M70VN-X1, but I couldn't find a good Thread about this model... Can anyone help me?
newegg dot com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220412
what do you think about this??? Is really one of the best? Maybe Pros and Cons that someone who has this laptop would like to share...
Thanks
PS: sorry if I'm breaking any rule. -
Here is a review of the older version: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=272680
Not the same GPU (and possibly not the same CPU, either) so performance-wise it's not going to help; but the information about build quality, usability etc. stays valid. -
Ok, thanks! but I don't know if paying 1500$ at newegg is a good deal or not.. plus there is not a good review or opinions of this computer anywhere! except the newegg page..
