I recently got my N750JK notebook and I was so excited to try those great speakers but I'm a little bit dissapointed. The subwoofer is great, it adds a lot of bass but the overall audio quality is not good as HarmanKardon speakers on my old Toshiba Satellite. It sounds weird. Sometimes I can hear some kind of echo or something and there is not a lot of stereo width. I was playing with MaxAudio and I managed to get some solid audio quality but I have two problems and I would be very grateful if somebody with N550/N750 tell me if you have the same problems.

When I turn the volume more than 50%, I can hear some strange noise, like the speaker membrane is hitting something. I put my ear on the speakers and it seems like only one of four speakers is doing that noise. I think that this is not an distorsion, but a damaged speaker or something (like a wire) on the membrane. Does somebody have the same problem?

The other problem is when I'm playing with balance slider: if I put it on the right, right speakers sounds pretty normal. But when I put it on the left, the left speakers sounds different than right ones (the sound is not very clean).

Is this normal or is it possible that my speakers are damaged? My laptop was in repair center for installing an SSD and it is possible that they damaged the speaker or let something inside which is hitting the membrane.

EDIT: the other thing with is suspicios to me: when I turn the bass to maximum and the volume to maximum, the subwoofer has pretty good bass but the speaker can be seen underneath and it's membrane is barely moving. The speaker looks like it can move a lot more. So why it doesn't move more? The amplifier hasn't enough power or what?

Because it does not need to.

It does sound like there is an issue with your front speaker set though.

If you meant on the subwoofer, I understand it doesn't need to but on this way the speaker is not used at it's full potencial. The bass could be stronger. Hmm, when my warranty expires, I will modify something :p

About front speakers, I discovered that this sound doesn't come out of speakers but near the speakers. The guys on repair center probably forgot to put something on it's place and now it vibrates.

Nope, the subwoofer is doing exactly what it is supposed to. There are many reasons it does not over extend itself like you are are wanting it too, ranging from chipset power, housing construction, and maintaining an even level with the front speakers. The subwoofer was never ment to give you high bass response, it was made to work with the front speakers to give a fuller range of sound.

You're probably right but it's still weird to see that "large" speaker barely moving. HarmanKardon speakers on my old Toshiba were extending so much that I thought they will gonna break but they didn't and there was no distortion. The sound on this Asus is sometimes just weird. Is not bad but somehow weird. Front speakers are placed on a wrong place, they should be located where the power and that other button are (two there and two on the bottom side).

EDIT: I have another problem. When I turn on my laptop, the sound is very quiet. I have to turn off Audio Wizard and turn it on again and then it becames normal.

EDIT 2: Wow, audio output has such a great quality! I have here some cheap 5.1 speakers and on my old laptop I had to play a lot with EQ to get them to sound decent. On this laptop, just a little bit of playing with EQ and these speakers sound great!

I know that every now and then, esp if I am playing alot of streamed video content, the front speakers will fail to engage unless I turn the system volume up.

I noticed that too, but mostly after turning the laptop on.

My laptop was in service center and yes, my front speakers were broken. They replaced them and now it works fine, there's no more strange noises. Furthermore, I think that the sound has improved a lot now. The bass is so strong that my desk vibrates and the sound is cleaner.

    Hello Injection!
I would like to ask you if it is normal that listening an Mp3, without the sub-woofer, panning the audio output only from the right side the sound is of pretty good quality, indeed, panning the audio only to the left, the quality seems like a music coming from an old little radio (no middle, only high sound). I tested three 17" Notebooks - N750JK Series and all have the problem. I tested also two 15" Notebooks by this serie and the haven't that problem.

When you use your balance slider between the right and the left speaker is the problem still there? I don't mean your strange noise problem...

    Thanx a lot!

    Hello!

I never tried this before but now when you said this, I tried and yes, left and right side sound different! Left side has weaker bass and somehow dimmed sound, but right one isn't much better either. But when playing together (L+R) with some adjustment, it sounds pretty decent. I found these speakers sounding little bit weird from the beggining, like they have some kind of echo, weird. My old Toshiba had clearer sound but weaker. But I was playing with MaxxAudio and managed to get pretty good sound quality, and speakers are really loud with a lot of bass. But still, they sound a little bit weird. Here are my settings: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zypdxgodab3zjli/shot_141209_193738.png?dl=0 And of course, you have to turn down volume in your player to avoid distorsions due to amplified bass. Volume in my Winamp/Spotify is below 50%. Try to play with those Center and Sides knobs, you will see that the weirdness of sound changes.

    Hello again :)
Thank you for testing the soundsystem. I played with the knobs with AudioWizard and it is ok for me. But I ask myself, is the Soundsystem between the N550JK and the N750JK different? Other Board, other Speakers? Sorry for my bad english...

It could be. I didn't have an opportunity to test the N550, even I know a friend who has it but never had a chance to see it and listen to its soundsystem. My friend says that his N550 is sounding good.
