I was just sitting in class today and I was wondering what new Asus models were out there. (haven't looked in over a year) So I came across :

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873

    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...=N50VN-A1B&Category_Code=AS15&Product_Count=3

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9173262&type=product&id=1218044029168

What makes these 3 unique (different)? If you have pictures or if you own one of these, let me know.. curious to see what it looks like from a consumer PoV, let me know what you think of it. :)

G-Series from Asus are all about gaming.....Two of the models from BestBuy are good gaming machines, with powerful videocard for gaming. BestBuy Models are generally cutdown models which sell for cheaper, due to lesser specs and crap warranty (1 Year instead of 3) They both have similar specs and price, and 15.6" 16:9 screen, RAM and Processor is better on the X5.

The Asus N50vn is a little bit more of an everyday multimedia/portable notebook which can do some gaming. Looks are more stylish and features are more everyday. Warranty from Non-BestBuy places is 3 Year International warranty. It has an LED Backlit screen, 16:10 15,4" screen.

If you can live with looks and warranty the X5 is great value.

But I see that the X1 appears to have a better processor than the X5? What is the major difference here, and why would a lower cost promote a better processor?

If anyone has some pictures too, that would be awesome.

Seems to me these are the general differences:

    Graph:
    Gentech - 9650M GT 1GB DDR2
    Bestbuy X1 - 9800m GS 512GB
    Bestbuy X5 - 9800m GS 512GB

    CPU:
    GEN - Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0 GHz
X1 - 2.26GHz (Not aware of model name)
    X5 - 2.13GHz (once again - not aware)

    HD:
    GEN - 250 , 5400
    X1 - 320 , 5400
    X5 - 320 , 7200

    PRICE
    GEN - 949$ Free shipping
    X1 - 949$ In store
    X5 - 999$ In store

So, what makes the X5 stand out more than an X1 with a better processor. Is the 9800m GS superior to the 9650 GT ?

The X5 has 3Mb of cache compared to the X1's 1Mb cache. The clock speed is slightly higher on the X1. (2.26Ghz vs 2.13Ghz) I'm guessing the extra cache of the X5, will outperform the extra 100Mhz of the X1. The X5 also has listed PC6400-DDR2-800Mhz, while the X1 has PC5300-DDR2-667Mhz. The X5 also comes with skull and cross bone graphics... :)

If gaming is your thing the 9800GS is substantially better than the 9650GT.
However the 9650GT has an extra 512Mb of ram and lower fabrication processes (55nm) means it's less power hungry (battery life) and produces less heat. The extra memory does come in handy for some games like GTAIV.
