Good. One of the first laptops I've seen with a 200M GPU.

Well, there have been a number with the GTX 260M or 280M, but I'll agree that it's cool to see one of the new 40nm series.

But aren't the current 260M & 280M still in 55nm and based on the previous generation core? When the GDDR5 versions of the cards come out, I might buy one... :D

Most likely other manufacturers would follow.

You are right, they are, based on the mobile G92 core, however, word on the street is that even the newer 40nm GTS series GPUs, including both the GTS 250M and the GTS 260M ( highest Ive sen so far ), will not surpass the GTX 260m and GTX 280m.

    The horses mouth.

They may not surpass the GTX versions already on the market. They should, however, run cooler, and on lower power, allow for higher overclocking. Smaller die sizes also mean that these cost NVidia less to make, meaning that we pay less for more performance.

From what I've seen, the 240M is not a very impressive card. The GTS 250M and the GTS 260M are a different story however... hoping to see them announced in some laptops soon!

128bits 48 shaders so it should be between the 9600M GT and GTS 160M. "240" implies it's a low-end card.

true, thats what some retailers have told me. However Gentech have listed ETA as 2nd week of July. I emailed them a couple of days ago but never received a reply from them. I havnt been able to locate their phone number on their website, so I cant even call and check. XoticPC advised that they will have stock by end of this week, so I am hoping that at least some retailers may get stock earlier than others.

If someone from Gentech is reading these boards, could they please confirm the status?

That is why my insider told me, end of month as well. But Gentech had it advertised earlier.

I wish they didnt use the N81 style case :(

just wanted to say for everyone's benefit that Ken did reply to my email, but it went to my junk folder hence I didnt spot it!

It was nice talking to you Ken, you are just about to earn one more customer!

with regards to why I couldnt find any phone number on the website:- if I visit 1toppc.com, no number is listed. but if I visit gentech.com, I can see the phone number. May be you could look why no number is listed on 1toppc?

On some sites I see the brown case, others the light blue/grey one. Which one is it?

Hey, so I'm thinking about buying this laptop off gentech and need to decide on a laptop fast since I'm going off to college and was wondering if the gtx 240 was worse than the gtx 120 after reading this thread. Also, are these in stock now? I was reading this site and it said not till like the end of July but gentech says they have them in stock already.

They are in stock in many places. red barn, which has the cheapest price does not seem to have them in stock yet. 240 should be better than 120.

Btw, does adding vista 64 or adding the thermal compound void the warranty?

Correction, replacing thermal compound requires heatsink removal which voids the ASUS warranty, at least technically.

However, in the past, ASUS wasn't very strict about this requirement, from what I can gather by reading the forums (never did it myself).

    But that's no guarantee.

I just got this in the mail today from Newegg. The DVD ROM is really loud and causes the whole laptop to vibrate. This can't be normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying the N51VN. I've particularly liked the previous model, the N50VN because it has great heat management, you can hardly feel any heat under idle. I don't really care if it gets hot under full load, but I like it cool for office work, browsing and such.
So does the N51VN get uncomfortably hot when during use?

What about the upper side ie. the keyboard, palm rest, touch-pad, do they get hot or warm at all?
