can you confirm if these are officially on sale in the UK and whether Full HD displays will be an option? I'm also a little confused as to whether Optimus runs on this or how you toggle between Intel & Nvidia graphics (i.e. Intel for web pages & video on battery, etc)

yes this carries optimus, so it switches back and forth between intel and nvida gpu, the problem is that you cant control it, the drivers are terrible, and sometimes the nvidia gpu never kicks in.

According to Asus the N53SV will have a FHD screen and a GT 540M GPU. The SN will have an HD screen and a GT 550M GPU.

Now that makes NO sense to me.

They changed it. I guarantee you that / was not there on Asus website when I added the information. It is possible I visited the website too early because I have been checking on that thing every day!

I'm becoming impatient. I want that slim brushed aluminum N53 with the 550M graphics card. Not to mention the expandable 16gb ram for all the virtual machines I'm going to run.

I've been checking Google products nearly everyday. I was going to settle for the N53SV-A1 but I can't settle with the low res screen. I'm currently typing on a N61JQ but I'm going to return it as I'm still within the 30 day return window.

Since it don't specify which wireless hardware make, does this mean the N53 cannot do Intel Wireless Display? This is a big deal to me, really hope I'm mistaken here.

Most likely it comes with an Atheros chip, but I'm sure some resellers might offer an Intel option or you could just get a desired Intel card and replace the Atheros one on your own.

I don't have much experience with replacing laptop parts and don't know if the WiDi software can be downloaded (i.e. so you could DIY a WiDi setup) or has to be there from the start. Impatience is a I will find my perfect SB laptop sooner or later.

Is GT540 a soldered gpu or mxm type video adapter. If it is mxm, is it mxm 3.0b or older ? Thank you.

A disassembly of the N53JF showed the GPU to be soldered to the motherboard, I doubt the N53S* revision changed that.

Here are some newly released stats from an Asian website for an N53SN. The SN differs from the SV in that has a GT550M instead of a GT450M. I am waiting on the SN as I want anything close to solid gaming performance with Optimus and a smaller chassis.

    Google Translate

Their review model is installed with a 2820QM even though the Asus website says stock only comes with a 2630QM.

Why do I have a feeling that the SN version won't be offered in the states?

Because your feeling is probably what will happen :( But at least, according to Asus website, we will get a FHD option. I won't hold my breath on that but that is what they say right now.

I would prefer a GT550 GPU but the GT540 will play the games I want to play just as well.

From what I read the SN is offered in Malaysia. Time to take trip?

This really makes it much more affordable than a dell. 1080p screen for us Canadians is hard to come by for less than $1300.

AFAIK h2O > the SV (1080p screen) is superior to the SN, they both seem ot have the same GT540

what is the difference between the asus N53SV-XE1 and N53SV-A1.
-is that one has a one year warranty and the other two.
    - also has a 500GB HDD and one 750GB
Apart from these two there are more differences?

I think these are the two main differences. If that's the case the XE1 would be the much better deal.

I am still waiting for the FHD screen. Otherwise I am so tempted to buy the Sager 5160 as I can get 1080p, 8gb Ram, and lighter chassis (5.8 vs 6.4) for a little over $1000. The Asus is much sexier though and is expandable to 16gb. However, low resolution is a no no.

By the way, if I were to buy the XE1 and do a DIY experimental screen swap, I wonder if it will be as easy as this video shows:

This is in the about us:

Komplett.ie, Komplett.nl and Komplett.be are part of PDC B.V., one of the biggest Dutch players in computers and consumer electronics. Together they sell more than 150,000 computers each year.

Our good relations with major suppliers in Europe, Asia and the U.S., means we are able to offer very attractive prices. By buying directly from manufacturers, we eliminate the intermediary and we can reduce prices very effectively.

Excellent service, attractive prices, wide range and highly skilled employees are our success factors.

Besides the Komplett.ie webshop we have activities in the following countries:

    Komplett.be in Belgium
    Komplett.nl in Holland
KBV B.V. is registered at the Delft Chamber of Commerce under number 24331836.

If you have questions, do not hesitate to email us!

Sounds legit but I would do some searching for reviews/feedback.

The N53SV-SZ016V seems to support a max of only 8 gigs of RAM, that is, not expandable to 16 gb as in other SV models. Seems kind of weird. Do they really put different mobos in the different SV models?

@Kris-DK it depends on how many RAM slots are on the motherboard, 2 vs 4. Sometimes the submodels with lesser CPU configurations (like i5) have less RAM slots, even though there are pins on the board they don't solder in the physical slots. I'm not sure about this model though.

I am interested in N53 JF XE1--this is with i5-460, with full HD screen

And other one is N53SV XV1 with full HD is available for Preorder on amazon.com

Amazon.com: ASUS N53SV-XV1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Silver Aluminum): Electronics

Only difference is that N53 SV XV1 has bluetooth, i7 processor and 1 year warranty (JF XE1 has i5, Blue ray combo and 2 year warranty)
Can anybody tell me that which one has better battery... i5 with Optimius or Sandy Bridge i7??

So which one would be the best from these two?

I found this UK based dealer that has an ETA for the N73SV for 1/31.

It is listed for 827.20 pounds which is approximately $1313 US dollars.

UK and US model numbers are different for the same features. I wouldn't be that optimistic for tomorrow's ETA though.

I'm thinking about buying the N53SV-SZ016V , but I have a few questions:
    1) It is using those sandy bridge processors right? Is it true that this laptop doesn't have the problems others have?
    2) I heard the keyboard isn't that great. How bad is it?
    3) How's the temperature of this laptop? My last laptop broke down because it kept overheating, does this one have a good cooling system? Also my old laptop throttled whenever I started playing a game. Will I have issues like that with the asus?

    Thanks in advance.

In the rest of th n, u, pl and ul series, the gpu is soldered to the motherboard.
So, i'm pretty sure that the n53sv has no upgradable gpu.
Confirmation, i don't think that you will gone a have till late march (because of the h6x chipset problem...)

All Sandy Bridge chipsets have the same underlying fault. From what I read the only time you will see it is if you use esata since the hdd/odd are unaffected since they are on the SATA 3 controller.

You can check the review on the first post about the keyboard and heat.

The Asus N53 does not have expresscard slot so you will not be able to connect it that way. You would need an accessible mini pci-e slot.

I do not see many Asus' on the compatibility chart in the ViDock thread though.
