I'm looking at getting the N53, and had a quick question about the touch pad buttons.

I'm concerned about the rocker. Is it possible to rightclick and leftclick at the same time. I don't need to do it often, but it seems like it could be difficult with one rocker button.

it is definitely possible to click both of them at the same time. I do it on my N53. It feels a bit awkward but the touchpad buttons is flexible and can bend to hit both although you have to hit them at the edges

Which particular version of the N53 are you looking at buying?

i just got an n53 and regret it. it's a freaking lemon that either freezes all the time or goes to BSOD.

If you "just got it" why not return it? - I have an N53 and haven't had a single issue with it and I'm completely happy with it - and impressed since this is the 5th or 6th laptop I've bought in the past seven or eight years (for both myself and my son who had a couple stolen while he was in the military) - this is by far the best all-around which I expect just due to computers getting better and cheaper with time - but that aside, just on a "bang for the buck" and taking time and the expected improvements that come with newer stuff into consideration, this N53 blows away any laptop I've owned

    - My son's MacBook Pro had a nicer illuminated keyboard and an overall nicer build, but also cost just under 3 times as much and is now completely obsolete after less than 4 years...Laptops can't be "upgraded", so I don't expect them to last long enough to justify spending $3000 or more - but for $900, I think this is a true bargain. i7 processor, 2GB video RAM, 14GB RAM on the motherboard (comes with 6 - added another 8GB for $40) a 7200 rpm HDD with 750GB or storage - will boot up in Linux in about 5 seconds if you just need to quickly access email or anything that doesn't need Windows to load (standard feature) - and so on.

Take a look at the reviews of the N53sm-es72 on Amazon...virtually every owner gave it 5 stars our of 5. One guy gave it a single star claiming there is no driver for the GPU - no one else had a similar problem (seriously - no driver for a Nvidia? - maybe he had a "lemon" slip through like you - it happens with Rolls Royces - it happens with anything made or designed by humans - but you DO have recourse..

One person gave it a 3 star review for too much "keyboard flex" - which seems to be either hit or miss or a matter of perception. I can't get my keyboard to flex without intentionally applying an absurd amount of force.

No one said it was "perfect" - nothing is - but other than those two complaints, everyone else gave it 5 stars even if they found faults - which anyone can do with any computer.

I've been using Win 7 on at least a dozen computers (both laptops and desktops) since it was released and haven't ever seen a BSOD???

yup, sums up the OP's question - it's different, but takes no time to adjust to...as far as it "bending" - it's not something you can feel - I wouldn't even think there was any flex to it at all except it's a very shiny finish so when "clicking" both sides at the same time, and looking at it, you can see a slight distortion in whatever is reflected on the single "bar".

Do not buy it!!! I had a N53SV for about 4 months and it had been a real mess. Too cumbersome (for a 15.6 inch display), frequent system locks after stand-by/hibernation, frequent locks due to drivers not up to date, an indecent keyboard, a very slow HDD 750 GByte 5400 rpm (more than two minutes to boot Windows). I would choose another machine or wait for the upcoming N56.
