    Hi all

I recently purchased a N53SV and am having issues with the media hotkeys on the top lefthand side of the kayboard area.

Basically, I like to remove all bloatware and do fresh installs of OS and programs on my computers. I've tried doing that several times but the media keys do not respond afterwards.

So, I have left *most* of the bloatware on so the keys are working (mute, decrease vol, increase vol, pause/play and also the function key which toggles the trackpad)

Strange thing is I have uninstalled some of the games by Oberon media (jewel quest etc) and now the keys do not work.

I've tried a number of things such as reinstalling drivers but that doesn't seem to work.

Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it so the keys work after removing all the bloatware?

    Thanks in advance!

I have the N73SV. I did a clean install of win 7 64bit after pulling and replacing the hard drive. (I wanted a faster drive).

After the windows install, I used the driver disk and installed all the drivers. It doesn't put the games etc back onto the computer.

The media keys work as they are supposed to now.

    You might try that.

    ahh

I've tried doing a fresh install of windows 7 whilst keeping the partitions as they are (20GB or so reserved as a back up/restore partition I believe) and then installing drivers from the CD but that doesn't seem to work.

As for a completely new install (wiping the HD and getting rid of the reserved partition altogether) I have not tried that yet as I'm worried that it might invalidate the warranty on my laptop??

Not sure about the warrenty. I used a completely new HD w/out any partitions. If things had gone to crap I would have put the old drive back in!

Luckily I didn't have that problem.

Also, if you do remove the partition you will be SOL if your back up disks fail. That's where ASUS has buried your 'backup'.

I happened to have an copy of Win 7 64 bit leftover from my desktop build. I didn't use the 5 'backup' disks I burned before I started the process.

    hmmm

I guess I'm really picky about my laptop...especially as it cost me £850

I feel that ASUS is robbing me of 20gb worth of HD space as well as bundling other crap onto it lol

I've got a spare win7 disc from a previous build as well but not too sure about the warranty (emailed them but no response) plus, the laptop was one that had sandy bridge issues so theres a chip where the tech must have accessed the insides so I'm kinda scared that if I do have issues they will say I have tampered with it :(

Install the atk drivers. You can find all of the drivers for your N53SV here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N53SV

Removing the recovery partition will not void your warranty, but you should consider backing it up, either with Ai Recovery utility or by just copying the partition with a utility, either to a file or an external USB stick.
