I just purchased this laptop and after having to send the first one back due to a bad screen, I've got the replacement.

Whenever I open the lid, there is a strange noise coming from the left side of the laptop where the lid connects to the casing. The first laptop had this same problem, but it was a lot louder. The noise sounds something like a ribbon rubbing on something, though I don't know exactly what is making the noise.

Has anybody else had this issue, or possibly know what could be causing it? It drives me nuts whenever I hear it and could potentially be something that shortens the life of the laptop. I did a forum search, but came up with nothing.

    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I have a N53SV and had the same thing as well. The reseller had another one shipped out. The sound in the new one was not as loud. I figured that with the long warranty, I really did not need to worry. I have had the laptop for a year and no problems.

Thanks for the reply, Superman. Maybe I'll have to give Asus a call and see what they say.
