    I tried that model out. For the price, its specs are outstanding. I ended up returning mine (twice actually) as it just ran too hot my comfort. Physically the unit stays relatively cool, but the CPU temps spike to the 90s if left at stock speeds, even on an aluminum cooling pad. By limiting its top end, I was able keep it in the 70s, but I just foresaw too many heat related issues as it got some miles on it.

    I did not tear it down and repaste it though, which I assume would yield some relief, but if you look at the n55sf owner lounge, the heat issues are relatively well known.

    I also wasn't a fan of the keyboard, both feel and button placement. That is a minor quibble which i would have sucked up if the heat was more mangeable.

    I ended up with a G74SX-XT1 (also from tigerdirect) and I really like it, but it is a true DTR (even heavier than the p7801u it replaced) so it may not be an option for you if you are in the market for a mobile system.

    is the 635 better than the 555? I was always under the impressions to disregard the first number, and the higher the second and third number the better the card.

    The 635M GT is basically I rebrand of the 555M GT slighlty overclocked, obviously still a Fermi card.

    Hi my dell finally died on me and I'm thinking of getting ASUS. I like this n55SF for its price and features, but I think everyone is not happy over the heating issues. What do you guys suggest for this price range and similar features ?

    I second the N55SL.

    It is a Euro and US SKU so it should be easy to find :)

    The information is correct about the 635. It basically got SKU changed because there will be a series of cards that replaces the 555 slot (probably unannounced 655) If you'll note the recent Razer Blade by Razer also uses this card so it would be considered a high end multimedia machine and entry level gaming unit.

    The mini sub is also pretty neat ;)

    I also have about 5 of the N55 series out in the wild right now and haven't heard any customer complaints about heating. They do have a small touchpad issue on some units that requires updating the touchpad drivers (But this is very minor and easy to fix)

    We also have one unit on demo display and I have not noticed it getting unreasonably hot

    Have been using it for almost a week. Mostly of internet surfing and some light gaming. It does seem to have some heating issues though even with CM u2 notebook cooler. Wonder if its normal.

    Left = just some light gaming (LoL)
    Right = normal web surfing

    Strange,..it's one of the coolest laptops I have ever worked with. However I think the weight was relatively high. So it depends if you travel a lot? Bring it often to school and such?

    Keyboard is not the very best but it's ok. If you are a heavy typer, you could look at HP laptops. In overall they have better keyboards (except de G-series)
