Forgive me if this is in the wrong place but I am trying to find information as it pertains to the screen on the Asus N550JV-DB72T. I would like to go pick this up at Microcenter but it appears the one they are advertising is different than all the ones I've seen reviewed / offered at 3rd party builder sites when it comes the display specs.

Amazon states it is a 1366x768 resolution display.
Microcenter states the same: Display Type HD LED-backlit | Touchscreen Resolution 1366x768

whereas Asus' site states "N Series notebooks arrive with ultr-crisp IPS screens that enhance color definition, brightness, and contrast, Going up to full HD, the resist reflections using matte coating, which also repels fingerprints."

Further, this review states it is a 1080p IPS display.

Lastly, GentechPC offers it as well, with the 1080p IPS display as the only option.

So, after much ado, my question to you fine folks is simple, are they shipping different versions of this laptops under the same model number with different panels? Is that why the Amazon / Microcenter ones are quoted at max res of 1366x768? Or are their specs posted in error? I'm just a bit confused.

Apologies if this is a stupid question.

    Thanks for any insight.

I've just noticed this video made by GentechPC.
Asus N550JV Touchscreen Laptop Product Showcase - YouTube

From 3:45, he said that the screen has a glass coating over the matte screen. Is there any difference between this and a glossy screen? And is that what they (xoticpc, excaliberpc) mean by Matte touch display?

That is interesting, I had watched that video but it didn't even register. In my mind I was thinking he meant there was a coating on the, already existing, glass screen that helped with the touchscreen/fingerprints/etc.

Both Xotic and Gentech have this laptop in TS and non-Touchscreen available with only an IPS 1080p screen.
XOTIC PC | ASUS N550JV-DB72T Touch
    ASUS N550JV-DB72T 15.6" Laptop Computer - Grey Aluminum N550JV-DB72T - Micro Center

Bestbuy, Microcenter, and Frys all keep stating that it comes with the x758 but someone here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...-asus-n550jv-user-review-owners-lounge-4.html

bought one from Microcenter, presumably this:
    ASUS N550JV-DB72T 15.6" Laptop Computer - Grey Aluminum N550JV-DB72T - Micro Center

That states a resolution of x768 but they are at least able to confirm that the laptop does indeed scale to 1080p though the IPS is undetermined but it is very likely that it also has an IPS screen.

This laptop seems perfect for me. The only thing left for me is to decide if I want the touchscreen model or not. The added glass coating mentioned in that review is actually a big reason why I may go for the non TS model.

The Asus product spec page for this laptop clearly states it's an IPS screen. Unfortunately I stumbled upon this thread AFTER buying an Asus Q501la from Best Buy. Guess I'll be returning it and buying the N550 from Microcenter once I get them to confirm it's FHD.

The Q501 is nice but for $250 more I get an aluminum case (the 501 is a fingerprint magnet), matte screen, quad-core i7, descrete graphics, and a CD drive. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Well, I can confirm with you I got mine from Microcenter yesterday and it is in fact 1920x1080 IPS. But, I'm sure their associates would be more than happy to confirm that with you as well.

I called the Cleveland store and was told they are HD and that if people are getting FHD it's because Asus is putting the wrong ones in the box. I'll call a couple of more stores and see what they say. The sales rep at XoticPC says he won't know for sure until they get it in stock. Thanks Spooky. My local best buy will be getting them in the next day or so so I'll get to go check one out my self.

The asus site curiously says these laptops are UP TO 1080p which makes me think they are shipping 720p models.
