Hello. I am trying to upgrade my BIOS on my N55SL to the latest version (204). Whenever I try to do this using Easy Flash, no errors occur, but when my system restarts it restarts into a boot loop. Luckily I had already prepared recovery files (with the 202 bios) so I could fix this problem by holding CTRL+HOME, which reflashed my BIOS using the older files found on my memory stick. This boot loop situation occurs whenever I flash the 204 bios, and can always be fixed with the CTRL+Home method. How can I successfully flash this newer BIOS, to fix certain brightness issues I have had with Windows 8 (which the new BIOS claims to fix).

Yes I have, in fact the second link contains the instructions I used for recovering after the notebook went into a boot loop. I heard that there is more risk using an unofficial bios, so I didn't use them. I can't remove the HDD from my laptop. If you mean the USB instead of the HDD then I also can't because Easy Flash (supposedly) fails when using a NTFS-partitioned drive, which is what my hard drive is partitioned to.

    Ok,
    I forgot that:
after the flash load the Defaults settings in the BIOS Setup via F9 + F10
Let the PC boot without HDD

Shut down the laptop and replace the HDD.
    Try to boot Win8

Why do I need to remove my HDD. I do not have any idea how to open my laptop and remove it, and no guides on the internet say that the HDD must be removed.

It's defininately not a Windows 8 issue. I also use linux so GRUB is the first thing to load from my HDD. Besides, the BIOS logo does not even show up after flashing. All that happens after flashing the 204 BIOS is that the power light turns on, the fans start spinning, my disk drive starts spinning, everything stops, repeat. I doubt pressing F9+F10 would have any affect, but I'll give it a go.

No, I haven't. I came close to doing so once but decided against it, as the USB 3.0 ports were working without issues.

Just kept rebooting until I turned it off manually and held CTRL+Home to flash the older 202 bios.

Well I don't know how, but I just reflashed the bios again and it worked. There was a nonexistant entry in the list of boot entries that I removedd, and then I flashed the bios. I held F9+F10 and turned on the laptop, and there was still a black screen and it rebooted again like before, but on the second boot everything worked! Thanks for all the help you gave me.

I use BIOS boot because UEFI doesn't seem to work properly. I pressed F2 at the logo and removed an old UEFI entry that no longer existed (the EFI partition was deleted by me).
