so....it seems like you cannot delete power4gear. even if you uninstall it. even if you choose in Power options and select 'balanced'.
power4gear refuses to leave me in peace - it flickers on and off constantly, flashing up 'entertainment' and 'power saving' continuously.

sometimes all is quiet and fine and then other times it kicks in.
it seems like the only way is to do a clean install of windows - MINUS the asus recovery stuff.

So - i have an asus recovery disc, which has windows 7 + all the Asus bloatware crap.
how do i get the recovery disc to JUST INSTALL WINDOWS 7, and not install all the drivers/bloatware by itself?

is it possible? it must be surely.
the recovery disc seems to be a combination of windows 7 + asus drivers/utilities/bloatware. Once its installed windows it seems to run all the Asus stuff automatically. I dont know how to stop it before it does all that.

EDIT: IGNORE - Found all the relevant stuff here.

    Lol @ the title ("indestructible").

No such thing, since recovery discs are images of the recovery partition. Glad you found what you were looking for though! Let us know if you need any help reinstalling Win 8, and enjoy the laptop!

yup found the guide on this forum for another asus laptop. made a recovery disc with the Asus software just incase.
then deleted all the partitions, installed w7 and used the key that came with the laptop. Done.

Power4gear gone forever. zero asus bloatware. Bliss.

In the future, try Revo Uninstaller. I always use it's Advanced uninstall option when I remove software I don't want anymore. Works great!
