    Hi there,

As you may notice, this is my first post here in the very first hour I registered. I'll get rid of this post asap if I'm pointed to a thread that I've missed.
I have been digging around several forums to find whether the FN-key behavior as it was on Win7 simply hasn't been converted to Win8 yet or I've not found the right way around it.

After upgrading, I noticed some of the Fn-keys didn't work the way I was used to. The Fn+C shortcut used to allow me to cycle through several color-profiles and the Fn+Spacebar allowed me to switch Power-management Profiles.

Removing and reinstalling several software components (Splendid, P4H) and drivers (ATK package and Key filter driver) has now fixed some of the issues but not all.
Fn+C now just opens the Splendid main utility (Backbone) and similarly, the Fn-Space opens up the main Battery application.
So, my question is, is there a way for me to get the old functions back as they were in Win7?

On another note, adjusting the screen brightness with Fn+F5/F6 is only semi-functional. After a few presses, it halts and adjusts the brightness with half a minute of delay...

    So just to summarize:

-Fn+C and Fn+Space now just opens the main utilities instead of cycling through different Battery or Color-profiles.
-Adjusting screen brightness is only working with a significant delay after a first few presses.

Would anyone know of a workaround or fix?

Uninstall the driver for the monitor and for the keyboard in Device manager, and then reboot. When Windows reinstalls the drivers, that might fix the screen brightness adjustment problem.

As for the keyboard mapping, this MAY fix it as well, but I think this is currently an issue with Windows 8 support for the keyboard driver or firmware.

Alright, I tried that. Unfortunately no changes after a reboot.

Adjusting the brightness, I think, is solely a keyboard issue as well, changing this within the Power Plan settings doesn't recreate the problem.

To be sure, you're referring to the laptop screen rather than the graphics device (Nvidia drivers), right?
And should I perhaps allow Windows to delete the driver-files as well?

Yes. :) It will be under "monitors". Some users with the exact same problem with the brightness hotkeys - and with a tint/gamma issue - have been able to fix it by doing this. I hope it helps! Cheers!

    Unfortunately no luck so far.
Seems even worse. It now refuses to work after a single stroke of the shortcut. Everything regarding brightness (including turning off the screen, F7) lags behind.
I'll try installing the Keyboard Device Filter Driver from ASUS again. Any additional suggestions are more than welcome :)

Edit*: After reinstalling the KB filter driver, the brightness keys work properly now! Thanks! If I could just find a way to cycle through the power plans and the color presets I'd be happy camper!

Phew! I felt bad for a moment when I read that it was worse. Glad it works now!

No worries. It'd be quite a d*ck move to blame you for that.
I've now just made some batch files to switch to several preferred power plans and bound a key shortcut to it. Of course, I'd rather have the system report to which plan I've switched to instead of memorizing which shortcut toggles which plan.
