I have owned an Asus N56V laptopn for several years which I had recently purchased new. Recently, and with no apparent cause, I have had difficulty starting or waking this laptop from hibernation. When I do so, the laptop will very often get stuck at the BIOS splash screen. It neither loads into Windows nor responds to a keypress of F2 to enter BIOS. To get it to start, I usually have to remove both the battery and disconnect the power supply, after which is might restart when reconnecting power. Alternatively, if I hold the power button down for 60 seconds after disconnecting both the battery and power supply, as this is supposed to reset the machine. I have had partial success with this method. But every time I shut down the laptop I have to go through one of the above procedures to get it to restart again.
I have disabled automatic sleep and hibernation so once I get the laptop going don’t have to fight it again until I manually shut it down, but this problem seems to be getting worse. Any idea what the cause might be? Is it the BIOS (and can the BIOS even be replaced)? Anyone else suffer from this issue?
Thank you for the time and help.

It can be a sort of corrupted BIOS, if you use Windows 10 its almost a guarantee that some day it will kill the BIOS, a reflash with a programmer fixes everything.
But start with the basics, teardown, remove and reseat CPU, clean all RAM contacts with a napkin moistened in rubbing alcohol/IPA, clean heatsink and do a repaste, and when it boots into the OS, run CrystalDiskInfo, because the lock-up can be caused by a dying HDD. -
I switched HDD but that did not resolve my problems. I have also tried CrystalDiskInfo and it hasn't detected any problems with the HDD either. I have access to the RAM but not the the processor or heatsink, this is a laptop so those parts are exactly accessible. I tried flashing the BIOS but EZ Flash refuses to flash the BIOS unless the BIOS version I am flashing with is newer than the current BIOS and because I already have the latest BIOS firmware this makes it impossible to flash. So no luck so far.
Thanks for the help though.Last edited: Apr 8, 2018 -

Try flashing the same version instead. Also, please run memtest to verify memory integrity as well.

Under the boot priories in the BIOS, does it list your boot drive as an option ?
