    I just got the N56.

When I click on something, like a folder or something, it will make a pop sound. Its not very loud and it still does it when I have the volume muted or something plugged into the headphone jack.

Any idea what this is and how to fix it?

It doesn't do it all the time, but enough to have cause for concern.

    1. Uninstalling/Reinstalling the Realtek drivers doesn't fix this problem.
    2. Turning the mic off also not.
    3. This http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/593724-asus-g74-popping-sound.html even doesn't fix it, because I don't have a PowerMgnt entry in the registry.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure this popping sound is coming from the audio system or speakers?

The touchpad buttons on some ASUS machines have a definite *pop* or *clack* sound to them.

i have a different laptop, but i know what you're talking about.

it's the speaker power management or something. There's nothing you can do about it.

it pops when you first boot up, then it turns off, then pops again when the audio is needed.
But I don't hear it when I have speakers plugged into the headphone jack.

to rule out touchpad buttons, use a usb mouse and see if it still makes the pop

I posted this solution on the N76-page. Maybe it'll help you too:

    Good luck!

Hi, I just bought a N56VM but i seem to have a faulty Sonicmaster external sub because it seems too quiet. I would expect the bass coming out from it to be better and would overpower the built in laptop speakers. Can anyone confirm if their external sub is quiet like mine or is it noticably better for bass then the laptop speakers.

So what you are saying is that it only pops when the laptop needs to play music or something with sound
