Hi there. I have been following your forum for years and used it to fix numerous problems I had with different machines. However, now I have a problem which I could not fix after trying most of the suggested resolutions on this forum and others.

The problem with my laptop is that today, I was in the BIOS settings and I disabled "Power Off Energy Saving" - after I clicked F10 to save and exit, the laptop rebooted and then did not start up as usual - there was only a black screen. After waiting for about 10 mins without anything happening from the laptop, I pressed the power button for 10 seconds to force it to shut down. After that the problem occurred - When I try and turn on the laptop, I get a black screen; it does not reach the Asus logo so I am unable to go back into BIOS and revert back to the old setting that I changed. The backlit keyboard turns on for a second, I can hear the fan spinning but nothing else happens, just black screen. I am sure the MB has not failed as it was working perfectly before I changed that setting and because the keyboard lights and it charges the battery (the indicator changes from amber to green when it charged it).

I read that a lot of people have similar problem after changing some miscellaneous settings in the BIOS (like the Asus animation, boot order, etc.). Different resolutions were suggested like holding F2 or F4 or FN+F4, but nothing helps me - I tried a lot of different key combinations without any success. Only feedback I get is when I press CTRL+Home as soon as I press the power button, I can hear the HDD starting, but after 2 secs it stops (which is confirmed by the LED light on the front of the laptop).

I tried removing the laptop battery, holding the power button for 2 mins and then trying to start it without a battery but without any success. I tried formatting a 1GB thumb drive as FAT32 and put the BIOS file (that I downloaded from the Asus website) on it. Then, I simultaneously press the power button and CTRL+Home, but nothing happens with the flash drive (I can tell by the LED on the flash drive).

One last thing I will try is to reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery. I really hope this fixes it and will let you know if it does.

Could you please help me with my problem? RMA is not an option as the laptop is not under guarantee anymore. I really need the laptop for uni work, as I do not have a spare.

    Thank you in advance!
    Petar
