I just got an Asus N56VZ-RB71, which is the same as the -DS71 but with a 7200rpm 750gb hard drive.
The only problem, after I exchanged it once due to a dead pixel, is that the top of the touchpad pops up out of the case a little. It can be pushed back down, but it pops back up after like 2 seconds. Is this a problem with all N56's, or is it just mine?
Also, Asus Live Update replaced the original touchpad driver, called ELAN, with an Asus-branded one. This one has a worse, slower interface, and the two-finger scrolling is too slow and unreliable in my opinion. I can't find the old ELAN driver on the Asus support page, so does anyone have a link to install this driver? Thanks!

If you can't find the driver on the driver disc, here's a link you can download it from. Not sure how fast it is, though. File is ~140mb.

I was searching for the bent up touchpad thing around the web and ended up here.
Unfortunately I had to exchange my Asus N56VZ as well after a day because my dot key wasn't working.
I got a new one though, but now I've noticed that the touchpad slightly pops out of its case at the back.
It doesn't really affect anything though, but I was wondering whether it was intended or not.
It kind of seems like the glue has loosened its grip there, if it's glued it is.
Do you know anything more already Egsigma?
Or does anyone else know of this? -
Hey Guys,
Have the same issue...
The touchpad isn't centered in the place where it sits. Andddd it doesn't sit flat. Clicks aren't equally responsive all around the touchpad as well.
The clicks thing doesn't bother me much, but the fact that the touchpad doesn't sit evenly is a little annoying, especially because I don't know if that means it's going to come out more eventually.
What is the experience of the others? Is this something that just affects some of the machines? I have no other issues. Love the computer otherwise. -
Mine does the same thing. It is lifted above the edge of the frame adjacent to the space bar.

Do you (or others) have any issues with the touchpad though?
If it's just going to be a little awkward there, then I really don't mind. If this is step 1 of 10 of the touchpad falling apart and coming out and stopping to work then I want one that doesn't do this.
Any input? I have a week left to decide on this. Eeep!
Thanks! -
I am going to be switching to the G55VW myself. It may be larger and lack the bluray, but it has more expansion abilities and a slot for an MSATA SSD drive.
