    Hello,

I purchased a 16" Asus N61-JQ laptop computer last year (June 2010) and really enjoy it except for one problem: the display locks up and random graphical glitches appear out of nowhere. The only solution to this is a hard reset. Occasionally, a BSOD would appear right after one of these glitches. Sometimes the computer would fix itself reporting a message that the "ATI Drivers has stopped working."

This problem occurs mostly when I am streaming video or watching a video saved locally. There usually is no problems when I'm gaming aside from the rare lock up, taking up to 10 mins of waiting to unfreeze.

I've already sent this laptop in for a hard drive failure back in October (This problem had occurred frequently with the old hard drive also so the new hard drive didn't fix it)

Temporary solutions I've tried are downloading the ACHI drivers, updating the video card to the most recent version, and making sure my computer doesn't over heat.

I've read through the Owner's Lounges fixes and tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor (problem persists) and the only way I can even remove the graphical glitches once they occur is to quickly decrease the screen resolution and reverting it back (this has a very low success rate but is the only way I know of temporarily fixing my computer without shutting it down).

I've attached a screenshot I managed to save of my screen going crazy.

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

Hello, yes I've already looked through a lot of the tips listed on that link, and none of the fixes worked. If you could tell me how to do a clean install that would be great, thanks!

Hey, I had the exact same problem, It had to go back to asus due to dodgy motherboard, they replaced under warranty and haven't had the problem since.
