    Hello,

I've had my Asus N61J notebook for about a year and a half now, and I haven't had any problem like this until now. The last couple weeks, I've noticed that my screen has been flickering sporatically. It will go black for half a second, or I'll see some vertical lines appear and disappear. I thought it was something to do with the video card (ATI Radeon HD 5730), so I updated the driver. It did seem to go away for a few days, but now it's back, and even worse. Is this something to do with the connection to my screen? An easy fix? I'm getting rather worried here - any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Does it seem to have any effect if you move the lid back and forth, or jiggle the machine a little bit? That would imply a loose or failing display cable connection.

If you suspect your GPU is the problem, try an external monitor to rule out the display cable.

It could also be the LCD itself if neither of the troubleshooting techniques above lead to any clues.

Thanks for your advice! It doesn't seem to make a difference if I jiggle my screen at all. Maybe I should try and find an external monitor to hook it up to. The last few days it's been fine. Very strange. Maybe it was just a hiccup, and it will go away?...
