Hi there,
I bought my PRO64JQ-JX003V here in Germany in January. I'm really satisfied with the notebook.
In the meanwhile I'm really missing Bluetooth. German Asus support told me that single modules will not be sold for upgrade.
Could anybody give me a product specification or a recommendation how to upgrade bluetooth ?
I've sufficient experience in electronics and hardware to implement it by myself. Nevertheless any hint for the implementation is welcome. Thanks.
Peter

I have to say, if I was looking to upgrade my machine to include bluetooth I would go with something like this. That way I don't have to open the machine up at all, and it's pretty easy to troubleshoot.

You can buy one of these modules at the asusparts.eu.
Here is the link to the bluetooth module for N61JQ:
Asus Spare Parts: Azwave Bluetooth BT270
Ask them if the installation cable is included.
Here is the link to the disassembly guide:
http://www.gentechpc.com/Asus/N61JQ/N61VN Series Chapter 02-v1.0.pdf
The bluetooth installation is on page 2-20 in the disassembly manual.
Good luck. -
I've read the disassembly guide and saw the youtube video with the implementation. Seems that one have to go very deep into the machine.
Would it be possible to exchange the internal WLAN module with a Combo module like this :
GQ 3dsp 54mb Wireless Bluetooth Karte 2 in 1 für Asus bei eBay.de: Netzwerkkarten -Adapter (endet 30.09.10 21:51:54 MESZ)
The discription says, that there has to be a second antenna, if not present, they can provide one.

The notebook has two antennas already built in.
I am not sure how this card will work, but the bigger concern is to see if it will fit in N61JQ. This card looks like a full size card.
As far as I remember, the N61JQ has a half-size WLAN card slot, so it will not fit.
Opening the notebook is not that difficult. I already did it couple of times with my N71JQ. -
Many thanks so far !
Sorry, but there are questions left.
First of all, you are right, the combo module is too big. The implemented WLAN card is half-size. Unfortunately there would be sufficient space, but there is a big connector in this area. It will not fit.
I had a look to the WLAN module. There are 2 antennas, both are connected to the WLAN board. Where will be the antenna for the BT ? Is one of the antennas wired internally to the BT connector where the BT module is located ?
An additional question to the mechanical implementation. It seems that there is much of work to dismount the top cover. In the video, they do it very tricky by opening the cover with a flat tool. Is this possible without high risk to break some of the plastic ? Or is the disassembly of the top cover more secure ?
The recommendation for the module is BT270. There is a BT253 visible in the service instruction. What is the difference between these modules ? Can both be used ?
Thanks in advance for help.

My N71JQ and I think the new N61JQ comes with BT270.
The service manual that I linked is from the older model N61VN. I think ASUS was using BT253 in the older design. The new N61JQ has exactly the same mechanical chassis design but the mainboard is different. N61VN was based on montevina platform (Core2Duo) and N61JQ is based on calpella platform (Core i7).
Actually if you look at the WLAN card in the service manual it is a full size card, but if you look inside your notebook it should half-size card.
Concerning the BT270 or BT253, you don't need an extra antenna connector. These have the antenna intgrated on the module.
Removing of the top cover was not too difficult for me. It is held together with the lower part with some internal clips. I did not use any special tool. I just pried to one corner near to the power switch and then slowly lifted it until the top cover was loose and continued doing that in the clockwise direction slowly until the whole top cover was released. You have to use some force to make the clips release.
But you have to be careful that all the screws are removed before you try to take it appart.
Did you buy your notebook at the MediaMarkt?
I remember that PRO64JQ is usually a Mediamarkt model number. I had a look at this also in January, and they were sold without BT module. I didn't buy at the Mediamarkt but I order N71JQ from USA. -
Dear Turbogear,
really many, many thanks for this datailled help.
I will order the BT270 module. Actually waiting for an answer from the shop if the cable is included/available.
Yes I bought it at MediaMarkt. In my opinion, it was an unbeatable price at this time. Blueray drive is also included. I've not seen a comparable machine in the meanwhile (same price but always without Blueray).
I just use it as fixed workstation on my desk. No more towercase etc...
I'm just missing the BT.

For me my N71JQ is also a desktop replacement at my workplace.
Yes you are right the price at the Mediamarkt at that time was unbeatable and Mediamarkt was the first one to offer this model in Germany.
I had a close look at it at that time, but the screen resolution for me was too less.
That's why I went for N71JQ. I ordered it from USA in Ferbruary. N71JQ in Germany was not available until end of March. -
Hi there,
so here is my final feedback about the bluetooth implementation.
Unfortunately it took 6 weeks to get the order, because Asus was in delay to deliver the module. But the parcel from zandparts arrived now 1 hour ago.
I had to order :
- Bluetooth 2.1 BCM2070 Module Azwave BT270 PCB
- BT270 Cable L:65mm
25 EUR for the module, 9 EUR for the cable and 20 EUR for the delivery to Germany. In sum 53 EUR for BT... puh... but I'm lucky now.
Implementation was quiet easy. I used the known service guide. But after implementation, I have to state that there is no need to do a complete diassembly. The prepared area for the module is left beside the card reader. There is some plastic cage and already a double sided glue tape to fix the module inside.
If I would do this a second time, I would just disassemble 3 Screws. One below the card reader and the screw left and right of this. It is then possible to open the top cover with some flat plastic tool (don't use metal and do it careful). You can then open the top cover about 3-4 cm and this is sufficient to implement the module.
So, I'm very lucky now. Finally thanks again to Turbogear fo all the help.

You are welcome.
Glad to hear that you were able to implement the BT solution for your notebook.
