Which one is the overall better value? Do they both have the same cooling systems and battery life? Which one is thicker? And is the Asus n61jq 1.5" at its thickest point or at its thinnest point. please help me out.

Hi fpsdoug46. Hopefully I can help answer your questions. The N71JQ is a little thicker. It is 1.8" at it's tickest compared to the 1.5" of the N61JQ. The N71JQ will also come with two hard drives and a blu ray player standard opposed to 1 hard drive and a DVD combo drive the N61JQ has. They are both rated at 2+ hrs, but with two hard drives in the N71JQ that model will get less battery time. They have the same chassis design so the cooling is going to be very similar.

thank you, i just have a few more questions before I make my purchase. I'm leaning toward the n61 as I don't need the bigger hard drive and blu ray. But I am concerned with the screen resolution. i currently have a mackbook4, 1 and its screen resolution is 1280x800 and its 13.3". Will the resolution be that much worse on the n61jq?

The native resolution on the N61JQ is 1366x768 so its not that much different then what you are used to. If you want to get a good idea of what it will look like try changing your current laptop to that resolution. Keep in mind the quality of the picture will suffer when you do that because any time you have a LCD screen out of its native resolution it will look blurry. But it will get you a general idea of the layout.
