needs better screen resolution -
Screen res. isnt a huge deal for me. Im worried ab purchasing it bc there isnt a whole lot of info and no one else can tell me how it is lol.
This is my "what should i buy"
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5703184#post5703184
will it suit my needs better or equal to the HP dv6t with the i7? (the laptop i thought i had decided on)
the two are very similar but i want to know more about the asus...
Thanks -
I wonder if this laptop will be available in Europe anytime soon? I've seen it listed on sites as xoticpc, however, most European shops only list the N61JA.
-
i got my eye on this one as well, but it seems there is not much info regarding how well the new 5730 will run
-
Well I would opt for N61jq because of the ATI graphics if you follow most threads in this forum the main issues are with the models with Nvidia graphics (thats the reason I am looking for a new one by the way)
-
What issues?
Not trying to start any ATI vs Nvidia wars but I really have had no issues with my Nvidia GFX card on any of my laptops.
ATI has some great mobile cards but driver updates are a little lacking.
Just my 2 cents. -
To bring some balance in ATI vs nVidia, some ASUS models with ATI do have thermal design issues -- such as my F6Ve. I have managed to bring my GPU above 100deg in FurMark...
Partly understandable if you consider it's an ATI 4570 in a 13.3" body...
(assuming no sensor/temp reporting errors) -
Not notebook related, but I had some major problems with ATI's 9800 PRO (both the 128 and 256 model) as well as the ATI 9800 XT, back in the day.
I don't have any experience with ATI laptop-wise, though. -
The 90W AC adapter concerns me. Isn't this a primary cause of the power throttling and performance issues of a Dell i7 machine? This seems like a lot of hardware for a 90W adapter...
Here's the link for the Dell XPS 1645 issues:

Does anyone actually have this laptop? Could you give us your opinions on it, how well does it work? Is the batter power enough? (three plus hours on Idle I hear)
I found a great deal (or so I think) at 1,139.99.
I had the Dell Studio with i7 and it broke within two days. The motherboards are apparently faulty on the i7 720. It was a great machine with great specs sadly it could not deliver without breaking. I would purchase that laptop again but my friend at Dell seems doubtful that they will reconcile the problem. -
-
Do you got any good leads on a laptop with i7 720 around the 1600 dollar price point?
-
with $1600 USD, you will get a decent i7 laptop.
But make sure your i7 does not produce more heat as compared to other processors. -
at 1600, you cuold try the N71jq
everything awesome. and its 1400 something!
Good luck! -
But I think still you can find a good laptop with your $1600 budget. -
am actually looking at this same laptop to re[lace my current at a local store this one to be exact:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX27213(ME).aspx
very well spec'd laptop for the price but not sure about build quality and heat. -
And neither are we. No one has it yet.
-
-
you made fine points there, Reicheru, but, even though i agree with you, people like shiny things and i would like backlit keyboard too BD
it is something we can live without, thou, and thing missed the most here is higher resolution... -
Yeah, I can see how if you can get it then do it. But it's the screen res. Ugh.
-
1366x766 @ 16"
is very close to
1600x900 @17.3"
So if it's really resolution that you were after, wouldn't you go after something that is full HD @ 1080P? Like the G71XX-XXX series stuff?
Cause there really is no visable difference between 1366 on 16 and 1600 on 17.3. -
I guess, but I don't really need full HD if the rest of the package isn't something I wanted. I like the N series a lot, so yup.
-
Just sounds like your kinda bashing the N61 with 13XX resolution, when 16XX res on a 17" is just as crappy for the most part
Your old laptop had much better resolution than your new one does. It has far more pixels per inch. -
I'm not bashing, I'm just giving the options. And yes, I like the res on my old laptop, and I hope I'll be happy with the new one. I just think that if my 14'' lappy can have a good res, the N61 should at least have that option, and I guess same with the N71.
-
-
Does that answer your question? -
The more pixels you try to stretch across your sceen the worse your image is going to look.
Remember when CRT 15 was very common and actually quite good? they ran at 1024 resolution. To see what I mean stretch your current desktop (I am sure you are not running a 15 inch crt) Looks terrible, but actually looks okay on the old 15

So are you guys saying I'm going to be unhappy with my display?
-
No, not at all. It all comes down to a matter of personal preference. I happen to prefer a higher resolution display, but there a many people who don't like that and prefer their icons and such a little bigger on the screen. It also helps make up for a weaker graphic card if you play games, since the native resolution isn't as high.
-
I usually like high res, however this seemed okay for my uses. If it is too much worse than the display on my T43, we may have problems...
-
You keep posting in the 16" thread, when you purchased the 17" version. -
when is this going to be available?
-
-
-
-
wait a tick....so the N61JQ-X1 is available now but the A1 only has a bigger hard drive? so why isnt it available now?
-
^ valid question, even i was thinking the same.
anyone?
justin/ken? -
can anyone guide me on the thermal compound?
Is an upgrade worth it? or will the basic one suffice?
Also, does upgrading to a better thermal compound void ASUS warranty?
Thank you -
-
And about screen, I think, if more pixels per inch means better image quality on screen than less pixels per inch. Hence 1366x768 resolution on a 14" laptop will have better picture quality than 1366x768 resolution on a 16" screen (correct me if I'm wrong).
So, having a more resolution LCD is always better for better visual experience.
But most of the Asus laptops have the same 1366x768 resolution, may be they have kept bull order to the LCD manufacturerand putting the same screen in all laptops !

I'm not randomly throwing specs in without letting people know I am making a comparison. They are both N series notebooks, both brand new, and both under a lot of speculation. So we are posting in different threads, big whoop. If you don't like it, go away. No one else seems to be having problems, and we are all having an intelligent conversation about possibilities for these machines.

PowerNoteBooks still says N61JQ-A1 has 1.3 mp webcam !
See the attachments.Attached Files:

-
^ whats wrong with a 1.3MP?
pardon my ignorance, please! -
-
As for the question about the camera, it's only a problem because I think it was supposed to have a 2.0MP? It could just be wrong on that one website, honestly. I'm pretty sure it should be 2.0. -
