    Hi guys

i recently bought a 17" Asus N750JV and I would like to add an SSD as primary disk for the OS and keep the existing 5400rmp as data disk.
I asked the Asus helpdesk whether I could do it myself without voiding the warranty and whether the ports are SATA 3.

this is their reply, but I am not sure what to understand. Is there a SATA-3 port, does it support only SATA-2 when two disks are plugged?? thanks for any help!

"If you don`t damage the unit or any warranty void stickers, you can install an second HDD (SSD).
According the datasheet this unit supports on Dual HDD only SATA-2.
May be SATA-3 is possible now, but without engagement."

This is a Haswell system therefore all SATA ports are 6Gbps coming from the chipset, however the chipset also contains 3Gbps channels.
Their response indicates that you can upgrade without damaging the system itself, but they contradicts that statement by saying you cannot break the warranty void sticker.
Normally, they don't care if you damage the sticker or not as long as you damage nothing in the laptop. Upgrading your NB PC is generally allowed in Europe/America, and is protected by consumer laws.
It is very likely to be a SATA III port (6Gbps) but you will have to test to find out.

Thanks. And when they say "According the datasheet this unit supports on Dual HDD only SATA-2" it sounds to me that if i use two HDD (or HDD+SSD) at the same time, only SATA-2 speed would be allowed. Is this normal?
