    Hey Guys!

I haven't posted to NBR for quite some time. I was quite active about a year ago.

My Lenovo T61 laptop was stolen from my car last week-end! I need to replace it quickly. I am looking at the Asus N80Vn-GP011C and the M50Vm-B2 from gentechpc.

I don't have any experience with Asus laptops OR ordering from gentechpc.com so I thought I might get some anwers from you guys.

    1. Both laptops come with Vista 32-bit. I want 64-bit. I already have a 64-bit disk and plan to do a clean install. Will the driver/utility disk that comes with this laptop include the 64-bit drivers and utilities? I realize I should be able to find everything on the Asus website, but I'm just curious.

    2. Does this laptop have a TV Tuner? The gentechpc site says "none" for the 14", but I have read some user reviews that talk about having a TV Tuner on this model. Also, there is a TV Tuner Driver available for download from Asus.com which leads me to believe it may have one. I thought this might be a possible error in the gentechpc site. I don't see any info listed for the M50Vm-B2.

    3. There is an IR "window" on the front of this laptop. Does it come with a remote control? If not, which one is recommended for this laptop?

    4. Does the 9-cell stick out of the back of the M50Vm-B2?

    5. Are there any big "gripes" about either of these laptops from any NBR members out there? I'm looking for a 14-15" laptop and these laptops look like they have some "beefy" specs.

    Thanks!

1)90% of the time 32bit drivers on the asus cd work also for 64, so it could be possible you need to replace a driver or 2-3, dont think itll be more
    2) N80 doesnt have TV-tuner
    3,4) dunno
    5) Id go for the N80 it has a nice price and awesome specs plus the 14inch portability (check the N80 thread in owners forum for this one!)

    1. The driver disks usually have Vista 64 bit drivers on them. If not, you can download them from the Asus website

    2. North American N80 models don't have a built-in TV tuner

    3. It does not come with a remote, but others have sucessfully used a windows remote on other Asus notebooks with the IR receiver.

    4. Yes, the 9 cell sticks out the back

    5. The M50 is being phased out and replaced with the newer N series models. I'd recommend going with either the N80 (14") or N50 (15").

I've purchased multiple Asus laptops from gentechpc over the past few years and they are exceptional in every way. They usually ship within 1 business day and provide excellent customer service and technical support when needed. Gentech is also often on the forums, so if you have any laptop issues, you can PM them directly too.

I'm writing this on my newly purchased N80. It's a 14" good laptop.

    1. I'm running Vista x64 on it right now. I loaded all the drivers from the Asus website and 2 drivers (Fingerprint reader & IR) from the CD that came with the system. Vista and/or 64-bit sucks btw.

    2. Nope

    3. No remote.

    4. Dunno

    5. It's hard to find any 14" that can beat the secs on the N80. Keyboard sucks, LCD is great with the LED backlighting, video card is good.
