Hey all, I made a post a little while ago upgrading my n80. Heres the Link

Here are some videos showing what I've done. I also used some Arctic Silver 5 on the video card's 6 contact points which was not show in the videos. Well you all get the idea. Heres a picture of the performance increase.

Warning! This type of disassembly voids the warranty of the notebook, because it requires removing the heatsinks.

Since you're new, I can't PM. How do you like the computer build-wise? Keyboard flex, key presses, LED screen, etc...?

EDIT: I forgot that I wasn't signed in to PM...oh well

Love everything about it. The keyboard flex isn't an issue since I have a usb keyboard but it is there and it sucks. I'm sure I can wedge something under the keyboard if the flex gets to be too annoying. The keys work fine as well. I haven't had any key misses yet. The screen is perfect for the size. I personally think 1400x900 would be overkill on such a small screen. The screen is nice and bright though. Ill take a few pics and post em up.

So how easy is it to install a new CPU? And how is your computer registering 8gb of RAM? I didn't think this chipset would recognize over 4gb...Not that I've seen anything to the contrary either.

The cpu is really easy to install. The youtube links show my build vids. The ram only shows 3gigs at the moment because of the 32 bit operating system. I have yet to install vista 64 bit (waiting on my new HD) Im pretty sure this will utilize all 8gigs of ram once im on a 64 bit os.

Great work, glad to see it all dropped in and booted up....

I think a SSD, and perhaps a new videocard should be next on your list of upgrade/mods. I know the Ati4600 will be in the N81, hint hint.... ;)

The lappy did not come with turbo memory on this model. I'm waiting to order my new hd so no 64bit yet. I haven't had any heating issues with the lappy. One because the CPU and gpu are linked to the same cooling module. Two because I'm using better thermal paste.

Update: I just purchased a new lcd screen for my n80. It's wxga+ so 1440x900 ftw. Going to be fun for games but overkill in windows. I got it for $131 shipped. I'll keep you posted with vids and such.

Thanks for the kickass video shinigami. It will definitely come in handy when I have to dismantle it in the future. Couldn't wait for the video to change the LED screen.

I'm looking at it and to remove the bezel you just have to remove the screws underneath the four bulges right? It seems a bit more tricky then my good old thinkpad where there is a more defined ledge on where you could pry it open.

Thanks man, I made these vids to help other people out without having to go in blindfolded. I'll have a video up either monday or tues of the screen replacement. I'm just waiting for ups to deliver.

Not yet, Ill try and coupe something up!

I personally do not think a power adder will slow down a computer. Maybe it will bottleneck. I wont know until I run a benchmark.

If it helps my lappy went from 5469 to 7124 and the only thing I had the first time was the solid state drive. Money wise, I've spent close to $1600 in additional parts. I really like this laptop haha.

I tried to do a keyboard fix as well which didn't end well...

Thats awesome though a 1500 3dmark increase and to top it off you didnt even overclock ive always wanted to see someone hit over 8,000 with a 9600gt/9650gt this is gonna be interesting to observe.
