Thanks for the guide! I have added a short notification just before the videos, warning that it voids the warranty.

Thanks! I forgot to write that too. I did mention it twice in the vids though. I have updated my video card using laptoptogo. Does 3dmark o5 only benchmark gpu?

the t9800 should've boosted the cpu score a bit but the sm 2.0 and sm 3.0 should remain the same or close to it. hmm very odd

and when the n81/n51's come out will their ati 4600 gpu's be swappable with the n80/n50's 9650 o.o?

I don't think the gpu's will swap. Someone in the N50 owners lounge opened their N50 up and the gpu is built into the mobo. The N80 should be the same way.

Has anyone had any attempts/success in addressing the keyboard flex/clackiness issue? Gonna head to the hardware store and see if i can find something thin and non-conductive to put behind the keyboard to help with the flex, but wanted to see what others had come up with.

Why did you downgrade the ram? The N80VN comes with 800MHz ram, yet you switched it out with 667?

I had some sucess. I used duct tape as an insulator. The only thing I did was stick two pieces together and layed them between the keyboard and the comp. I was a little scared for heating issues so I pulled it out. Something non heat conductive like tin foil might work. Its not much of an issue to me because I'm using a usb keyboard.

8gb vs 4gb in Vista. Runs a bit smoother even though the bus is lower.

Had to come down to 1725 because of instability. Seems to be working great now. Running COD4 in 1680x1050 with perfect fps. All maxed except for AA heat dipped into the low 70s though. I also undervolted the cpu to 1.1750v working stable as well.

my n80 is comming next week. i cant wait to see where this thread goes. if i can hit 5k or close in 3dmark 06 i will be happy. on my 9300m G overclocking the video card memory seems to get me farther then overclocking the gpu. so i will do that on the n80.

I have read the whole thread and this looks awesome.

My only modification to my laptop is to replace the thermal paste with AS5. (and void the warranty of course ;) )

+Rep for your courage to do such extensive upgrades... Good luck w/ your future work...

sh1nigam1, where did you get this 9650M GT graphics module? I am working with an n81vg-x1, similar to yours :p

hmm curious, would any socket P core2duo processor in the line be compatible with the n80 board? as long as its 45nm?
also, is the no wireless thing due to some error on the upgrades? or did your wireless card fry or something?

I've also been looking into upgrading the resolution on the screen. I was wondering, what screen/model no. did you purchase? I looked for documentation to see if there is a compatible screen out there but could not find much.
I upgraded my N80VN with an Intel X25M 160Gb SSD and it is phenomenal. The screen is my next upgrade, I am a developer and would like the extra real estate provided by 1440x900 resolution.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

I did upgrade to Win7 Pro. Great upgrade, highly recommended. Everything works much smoother, especially with the SSD.

I tried the following screen but the connector was incompatible. I could not find any screen with the same connector.
DELL LATITUDE E6400 14.1" WXGA+ BV LED SCREEN

Just one suggestion. The Intel turbo memory is counterproductive when using an SSD. I would remove it and re install the wifi card.

    Thanks for the info!

Well the BT183 might not work... but I'm willing to bet the BT253 will!

If you go to the ASUS Drivers for the N80Vn (and the N81Vg), the BT drivers are for a BT253. After scouring the internet, I found one here:

    http://www.asusparts.eu/product_info.php?products_id=1729

Actually, it was the only place I could find it! I'm not sure if it comes with the proper cable... I think this one might work:

    http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/72-43581-12649/ASUS-A8Sc-Various-Item.html

Also, this video is for a completely different model, the [A8Js], but the bottom of it also looks very similar to the N80/N81 series (so does the back if you look closely to the video... same ports)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ucLoVbqTZ4

I would really love to know if it's possible. I have an N81V, and it looks so similar to the N80V. Would you still try to upgrade with internal BT?
