I think I have decided on this computer, but now I just have to decide on where to buy it.
I have bought a lot of stuff from newegg in the past, with out any problems at all, so that would be my first choice. However, I do like to support the companies that spend time here answering our questions.
It looks like to me the price and accessories are the same, so is there any other differences/advantages of buying from one place or the other (I won't be changing the basic configuration)?
-
No, and when the price is close or the same. I have always try to buy from the retailers that have been active on this site.
-
Not really other than the fact that Newegg is a very big company who has a stellar reputation and thus would be negligibly hurt by a bad experience from you. The resellers, however, are very active on these forums and have more to lose should something go really bad and they fail to resolve it well.

I'm not familiar with gentechs return/exchange policies, but I know newegg has two different return policies. I believe your laptop falls into the 30 day refund return policy, with a restocking fee. I've had a good experience with newegg thus far though. But as many people stated, gentech is active on this forum so if you had concerns or questions, you could have a more personal/direct inquiry with them than newegg.
Another thing to consider, is how you are paying. Newegg offers their no interest financing on orders of a certain amount. However, I'm pretty sure gentech accepts paypal if thats more appealing to you.
I'd say you are safe either way though. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
-
Thought that would be assumed, but yes its through their own card. They can't very well tell visa or MC to offer no interest now can they
-
I bought my laptop (in the sig) with their preferred account and they defer the payments over $499 for 6 months and the payments over $999 for 12 months "free of interest or any hidden charge".
I purchased my laptop and paid the fee after 11 months.

GenTech
Done!
EDIT: Read here... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=386700 -
I've purchase countless items from newegg, however when it comes to purchasing an Asus, GenTechPC would be the better choice between the two. In case you have any questions or troubles, GenTech will be able to help you troubleshoot while newegg would only direct you to Asus support.

I just ordered one from Ken (gentechpc). With ordering it through ebay I was still able to get the 10% bing cashback. Ken was excellent and fast on responding to my questions in email. He even said that he would get it shipped out today!

I use NewEgg pretty often, and I love them.
However, we have GenTech reps who both post here and offer some fanstastic customer service. They took a quad core for testing from Forge, I think; I haven't heard of another company doing that.
If the prices are about the same, I'd go with GenTech. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Gentech usually has comparable prices. The main reason why they would seem more expensives is because they have "better" versions.
I.e. the G51vx-A1 has better specs than the G51vx-X1A, and thus would cost more.
Haven't bought a computer from GenTech yet, but when I get bored with the G51 I will definitely go through them. -
Same. My next Asus is going to be through them.
-
Oh yes GenTech, all the way..
I will never make a mistake and buy a high priced item from NewEgg ever again. Laptops are non refundable with Newegg.. you get a replacement if its defective, but you cannot change your mind and return it.
Ken Lee is simply the best. He's the largest Asus reseller and if you have issues with the product he will get it resolved. He can intervene with the technician to make sure of it. Nothing like dropping names to get things done! -
hey rmpg505 send me a email if you get a chance ... [email protected] have some question on your g71gx and w90vp... name is Paul ^_^
-
gentech all the way my friend
-
You made a wise decision. GenTechPC is the best company I've ever bought a laptop from...and yes, that includes NewEgg and AlienWare.
-
GenTech! Ken! 'nuff said!
-
I just got a n81vp-d1 from gentech, and had some special requests since I was overseas at that time
Ken was very accommodating and it was a great experience
(my asus 1000he was from gentech too!)
now i'm just trying to figure out what to do about my stuck CPU sensor... -_- (it doesn't go below 40C)
