Why 14" Asus costs more than 15.6" Sager Full HD laptop ?

Both the laptops offer Nvidia Optimus technology and approx same other configurations (i5/i7 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Win7 HP, USB 3.0, etc...)

Is Asus build quality is better than Sager ?
I could not understand why N82 is priced high :(

n82 is using gt335m instead of gt330m on sager. also 14" cost more due to its portability and not to mention it has blu ray writer on it.

    Man ... Correct your facts.

N82 has option for BD writer so as Sager 5125. And if you want to add the BD writer in Asus N82 you have to spend extra $195 USD over $1159 USD.

Again, 15.6" Full HD laptop should be more costly than a 14" HD+ laptop.

Still if you compare the same configuration of both Asus N82 is more costly than Sager 5152.

Where's this sager laptop you mentioned above? Googled it and gives me 3 results, 2 of which is this page, and one other is irrelevant page.

Talking about this one, I think.

But, like Genocide said, the graphics card is a little better, and as things get smaller, they get more expensive.

Although I can't find pricing for that Sager anywhere. Maybe you're looking at a barebones Clevo?

Dude, in my local place the unit itself already selling with bd writer, no upgrade required.

if you are saying the us reseller, yes they need to upgrade it.

Doing a quick configuration, a NP5125 similar to the N82JQ, with 1366x768, i5-540m (The highest upgrade option it gives you is the i7-620m, which I think is more expensive than the i7-720qm; I compromised), 500GB @ 7200rpm HDD, Win7 HP, and a 3-year warranty comes out to $1138.

Considering the i7-720qm is a more expensive CPU, the GT 335m is a more expensive GPU, and, all other things being equal, a 14-inch will tend to be more expensive than a 15-inch, the pricing is about the same, with a Sager being slighty more expensive tech-for-tech.

To give you the easy answer regardless of specs, 14" notebooks are always less value for money than the 15". Just look at the manufacturers that have the same line and offer a 14" and 15" versions:

    Lenovo Y460 (14) vs Y560 (15)
    Asus UL80 (14) vs UL50 (15)
    Acer 3820 (13) vs 4820 (14) vs 5820 (15)

Makes me wonder if it is ever worth it to get the 14"? I understand the 13.3 is much smaller than a 15.6, but will the 1.6 kill you moving from 14 to 15.6?

    Hmm. Interesting.

I don't know about Acer and Lenovo, but when I was looking at GenTech's UL30vt, UL80vt, and UL50vt, they all had the same specs and where the same price at about $819.

But if you notice in your build, you have a weaker processor (i5-520m), only one year of warranty (I had thought the N82JQ had a three-year warranty; thanks for catching that). Going to the next-best CPU without being more expensive than the i7-720qm (i5-540m), and adding another year of warranty raises the price to $1088.

Which is less than the N82JQ, yes, but the Sager also has a weaker processor and GPU, plus it's bigger. So, in the end, it still looks like they're priced about the same, tech-for-tech.

But the Sager is going to have better cooling for sure.

Yes...As it has Optimus technology which will automatically switch the GPUs.
And for less heat we should prefer dual core processors only rather than quad core.

But surprised, Asus had promised to have Optimus in N82, where is that model ? Asus had also promised Full HD in N53, but they are NOT providing same. Seems Asus deviates from their words :D

There are 2 Asus N82 models - JV and JQ. The i7-720M does not support Switchable GFX, but the i5-520M does. This also means that if you configured the Sager with the i7 you would lose switchable graphics. The n82jv w/ optimus is only available in Europe as far as I am aware.

Do you need switchable graphics? What are you using your notebook for? I would love switchable graphics but I suspect I will not need it since I rarely am away from power that long.

We've been through this before, not all ASUS models are released worldwide.
Some are exclusive to certain regions.

WOW, you really dont know your stuff, go with the asus its worth it yes it does not have optimus but you get the extra processing power, the reason you get optimus on the i5 is because it has the discrete graphic card on the processor. Also better graphic card is alot better (if you dont understand, your pretty much getting a 15inch MAC PRO in 14inches of asus for 1/3 the $$$). Sager is ok but the little reduction in cost wont be worth it since you will HAVE TO upgrade to full HD since that resolution looks like crap on 15.6 inches but thats my opinion.

Sorry if my post sound angry, i just get aggravated when noobs are not only uneducated but also when they are indecisive and dont understand there own needs.

Agree i7-720QM has extra processing power along with EXTRA heat in a compact layout. But do you really need that extra processing power ? Depends upon your requirement. BTW, Are you saying Asus build quality is better than Sager ???

He was under the impression that the i7 upgrade in the Sager was i7-720, which is a quad core. The i7-6xx cpu's are only dual core, so it still retains the embedded graphics (I suppose).

I'd go with the Asus if its screen weren't a complete piece of trash. Even a 1600x900 screen would make it worth it over the Sager, but 1366x768 in a laptop that costs that much is unacceptable.

I was talking about the asus, the extra processing power is DEFINITELY worth it, by the way I hope you know that almost the WHOLE line of core I# cpu's (i3, i5, i7) are all binned, for example the i7 620 is exactly like a 720qm except they used two of the cores to handle the graphics the architectural design is the same but the chipset as well as the encoded part of the cpu will decide the function therefore core i# with extra cores for the discrete graphic + chip set to handle it = OPTIMUS. Its simply better to get the i720qm over a lesser cpu, look at it from this standpoint asus has power 4 gear witch lets you bring your cpu from 55watts to 15watts plus the graphic card witch will probably draw around 30 watts (this is an estimation)

asus with power 4 gear cpu + gpu draw = 45watts

now for the sager you have optimus witch in discrete mode will draw a full 55 watts in order to use the 2 dedicated cores for graphic processing plus the extra chipset and the extra dye on the cpu.

sager with optimus, on discrete graphics = +55 watts.

Also since the parts in asus are smaller and the slightly smaller screen the battery life on it would most probably be better even against the sager with optimus. And since Optimus is all about power efficiency and the asus is more power efficient if configured properly it thus removes optimus completely from your decision.

Also a side note the asus is much slimmer then the sager and it has better specification. With all of this said GO BUY YOURSELF THE ASUS AND DONT LOOK BACK.

There is much more than the numbers that are shown
For example we have seen many times that AUO screens are worse than LG/Samsung and therefore I assume is cheaper as well. The specs are the same but not the quality.
Furthermore, the warranty is $$ too 1 year Accidental, 2 year global
and finally, the brand itself; they have the ability to charge more because of their exposure and what not and/or the less popular brands need to lower their prices in order to compete.
I don't remember everything I learned in Marketing but ya~

The bottom line is "You get what you pay for" most of the time it's true.
