I just bought this laptop which is well amazing, it was used but it looks brand new

I pretty much use it just for internet browsing via chrome with about 30 tabs at a time, no music or vids

Every now and then the fan will be very loud, i checked the temperature with speedfan and its at 80c, the fans take it to 50c and then they become quiet

I removed all the old compound on heatsink and die with alcohol and put new thermal compound and ensured the screws were tight, but it has not seem to have made a difference

    Any thoughts?

It's the profile that the BIOS has probably - it stays quiet as long as possible, once it hits 80, it cools it down and goes back to being quiet - that's my assumption.

Well that is fine i rather it cools, but isnt 80c too high, my previous Asus only did that as it got older

Tjmax is 100*C - anything under 90*C is fine.

That kind of sucks though cause the fan is on 80% of the time so while this is a premium laptop its def not quiet at all

Most laptops have the fans running constantly - that's to avoid high idle temps.
