Mogal, I'm in Aus too and I've had my pl30jt now for over a week (Ro025x) and I can confirm it does have the 5600mAh battery supplied.
Very nice machine, so happy with it.
-
I would love to be able to get my hands on the bigger battery as i am a uni student and generally need it throughout the whole day. -
My battery states 5800mAH
-
I got mine from a local company, Principal Computers #1 Computer Shop in Launceston - Principal Computers Launceston I pre ordered mine some time ago as this isn't a stocked item.
The included battery will be the same from where ever you buy it.
Cheers. -
alrighty, thanks guys. Guess ill be purchasing mine soon then too
-
Picked up my PL30JT-RO025X Friday morning June 11 in Sydney. Battery is 5600mAh, screen is 13.3" matte, keys & keyboard surround are matte, Intel i5UM/4GB, NVIDIA OPTIMUS 310M, Win7Pro, price AUD$1,262 excl GST (10%)
-
john, which i5UM model is it? I think PL30JT only available in Australia for now. No other country has it for sale.
-
i5UM 520 ... allegedly only 50 bought into Aus ... I ordered online early morning Monday 7 June from vendor who had advised 1-2 days availability from payment clearance. Vendor confirmed pickup available Thursday. Another purchaser who ordered Wednesday since told vendor has sold out & has returned his money.

Anyone on where to buy the pl30jt or ul30jt in the uk?
-
Can you new PL30Jt owners check the manufacturer of your LCD panels? How is the quality of the matte screen?
Also, how is the battery life so far? -
-
He quoted price without GST. Surely after adding that, it will be over around 1400.
-
The screen is wonderful, very soft on the eyes. Not sure how to check the LCD manufacture, sorry. -
To check the LCD panel manufacturer...
If you are running Windows 7:
1. Right click on desktop
2. Go to Screen resolution
3. Click on Advanced Settings (on the right)
4. Click on Monitor tab, and click on Properties
5. Go to Details tab
6. Go through the Properties and try to find certain keywords like "LGD" (LG) or "AUO" (AU Optronics) or something else. It will most likely be located in the Hardware ID section. -
I can get at least 8 hours of battery life on battery save mode -
Yup its AUO112C like Willzy posted.
Will be using the machine at work this week so will get a better idea of battery life, 8hrs would sure be nice! -
To bad, that this notebook also misses some ports like e-Sata or USB 3.0 or atleast an express-slot for upgrades to make it really a business notebook!
I can't understand what Asus is doing, when they integrate those ports into a damn netbook! -
$1,387.80 incl GST to be precise with free delivery if I wanted it (which I didn't)
-
Can someone please confirm for me what battery it actually comes with; 2800 mAh or 5600 mAh? Some people on here seem to have a 5600 mAh one, but I've called several resellers and Asus themselves and they all say it's 2800.
There's obviously a big difference so I just want to be sure!
@ Johnprop; where did you get it for such a good price? The best I can find is $1413 on 9289 but it sounds like some people have had problems with them getting in stock.
Thanks! -
Guys,
I'm an Architecture student looking for a new laptop for some uni work. The laptop would be a secondary computer as I have a desktop at home.
I've been looking at
ASUS K42JC K42JC-VX013X @ 1229
ASUS PL30JT PL30JT-RO025X @ $1479
Which one would be a better computer for me? I at a look at PL30JT, it is very light and slim, but ordinary/humble design. I haven't seen a K42JC so I'm not sure.
In terms of performance...will the two laptop differ by much? -
-
-
Oh and incidently my battery pack says it's a UL30JT battery pack so I'm guessing thats what the Ul30JT is going to have
-
I'm having 2 issues with the laptop and wondering if others are having the same problems.
When the laptop comes out of standby or hibernation the laptop doesn't detect the finger print reader and I have to login by typing my password. The finger print icon actually says underneath it that is wasn't detected. However once logged in the reader works fine.
The other issue is a weird one, when typing in my password on the windows screen, again after coming out of standby, the screen flashes quickly and returns the cursor to the start of the password field. The problem with this is if I'm half way through typing my password and the cursor goes back to the start my password is wrong. The screen flashes about every 5 seconds so I just need to time it right.
Any ideas... ??
I might check out the UL30JT thread too. -
Any news on this coming to canada or the states?
-
The Asus PL30JT is released in two versions in germany since a few days:
ASUS PL30JT-RO030X 33,7cm Ci5-520UM 4GB, 320GB, G310M, BT, Win7Pro64 - t-online.de Shop
ASUS PL30JT-RO062V 33,7cm Ci3-330UM 4GB, 500GB, G310M, BT, Win7HP64 - t-online.de Shop
Which would you choose? -
It's really expensive. i5 for 900 Euro. I wonder how much more will it cost for i7, if there's any in the future.
Anyways, we all know i3UM does not have turbo boost. But does Asus turbo'ed them like UL30VT? -
hey guys, I picked up the pl30jt RO025X for $1479 from cpl in melbourne a couple of weeks back. Havnt really been able to use it extensively due to exams but they are over now.
Asus quote 10hrs on the 5600mAh battery, however on battery saving mode I usually get approximately 6-7 hrs which is still pretty good.
Sambo, I have also experienced the same problems with the fingerprint reader when coming out of hibernation/standby mode, it has only done it twice so far but the last few times there have been no hiccups. Its probably a software issue so hopefully a software update will be issued in the near future to fix that problem.
Additionally, the screen is great, good viewing angles, brightness and contrast ratio.
Speakers are decent, they are clear and do not distort when turned up to full volume.
It has a sold build as the chassis is based off the ul30 series.
Clearly has sufficient memory @ 4gb and as for the new ultra low voltage i520UM; its great, fast and responsive. I havnt put it under any stress tests though. It seems much faster than the old C2D SU7300.
all in all this is a very good buy in terms of what you get for your money.
Cheers. -
I'm torn between the PL30 and the Acer Timeline series.....besides the graphics differences, has anyone owned both and liked one company over the other ? I don't think the PL30 is available in the USA yet and it looks like the 13.3" ACER is shipping..... Thanx and enjoy your week, Chris
-
I've got the fingerprint reader issue too and the password issue. It's almost as if the software is continually refreshing device manager until the fingerprint reader is enabled. As with you guys it doesn't happen all the time, and you can look at it like a security feature
You have to type your password in really fast
-
I have been able to get 7hrs battery life with Turbo33 disabled and Power4gear set to battery saving but video's won't stream without lag over my WLAN in this config.
Sambo -
I've tried a trick from another thread I found which is to goto Device Manager and turn off the setting where the computer is allowed to turn off this device to save power (Biometrics->Validity Sensor). Seems to make it a bit better.
-
Looks like the PL30jt have a noise problem in battery mode - its not the HDD - but i hear a strange and crazy (not easy to translatechirp/twitter
battery life - Turbo33 enabled and Power4gear set to battery saving and WiFi: ~ 5 hours (looks not very good....)
Cu -
My battery life isn't far off that as well. -
ASUS released a new graphics driver, which you can download here:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
It fixes the issues with Starcraft 2. It seems to run fine now. I got ~40 fps on medium. ~30 fps on high (dipped to lower 20's once i had a 100 food army). ~50->60 fps on low. I didn't test ultra. I think i'll stick with medium. -
Thanks for that update post qaz!

Picked up a PL30 last week and after a week of usage I have a few issues which are enough to wish I could return the unit and wait for a better option. Unforutnately Geek central dont care to do refunds and Im stuck with:
* Very poor screen quality. Anti-glare is nice, but colour reproduction and viewing angle is crap (for my standards). Blacks are closer to gray and viewing the screen at any angle other than direct changes colours significantly. I would switch back to my 3 year old Dell M1330 in a heartbeat.
* Constant high pitched whine coming from chassis (both in AC and battery) and even with display turned off. Will be speaking to Asus techsupport about this.
* The chassis weight is not balanced and when using it as a LAPtop (on the lap) there is a too much pressure applied from the weight on the battery.
* Again when using on the lap the downward facing speakers become very muffled. -
As far as I can see the Asus PL30jT RX003 in Holland comes without bluetooth?!
-
In the meantime got an answer of ASUS Support: The blue tooth is optional; One has to tell the dealer that you want the ASUS PL30jT with the blue tooth option.

Huh Gumblag?

Has anyone heard if/when these are going to be available in the US? Am currently in Melbourne, but off to the US in about 3 weeks – tossing up whether to buy here and claim back GST, or wait until I'm over there and get it in New York or Boston – but can't really find it (or anything similar – 13.3", core i5, nVidia) over there.
Also, is anyone running linux on one?
For those of you from the US, apart from BHPhoto Video, where else would you suggest to go to find one of these? -
Doesn't seem to be a widely available unit, I'd definitely get it in Oz unless you want to get a different model in the states?
-
Anyone having black screen hang problems?
Basically it seems to happen when booting, i think it is more when it is coming out of sleep it gets to just before the login screen and the screen stays black and I have to hold the power button to reboot.
It seems as though the graphics card is crashing.
any ideas??? -
Version BIOS 216, should fix boot problems, like the ones of hibernate, sleep mode, and other ones, no more black screen after that. -
I have dropped my lappy and have damaged the aluminium panel hand rest. ANy ideas on whether it can be replaced?
