Asus Gearing 3D Mini-Laptop Gamer at Alienware M11x
but think alienwares' forthcoming product announcement (e3) may just end up being asus' buzzkill - idk, we'll see...

haha yeah. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my Asus eee, but the M11x is way better...
-
The resellers here have already confirmed a 15" version of the G73jh soon. Don't know of anything smaller than that.
-
15" doesn't fit the bill for this... sounds like may 31st we'll know. -
Links dont work
-
I hope it is a new ultra-portable gaming computer. This is exactly what I have been waiting for since the M11x came out. The other PC manufacturers aren't going to let Alienware be the only player in this market forever.
More choice is a win for all of us. -
If they can make an affordable 3d gaming laptop this could be the killer app to bring more attention to PC gaming. The PS3 is still a ways off from implementing 3d and even after that it will require most consumers to buy a new TV to use it.
-
You don't get that much space between the chiclet keys and still have all that chassis to the left of the keyboard on 11.6" or even 13.3" machines. -
what's the point? there is no way you can get decent frame rate if you use 3d. nvidia recommends an gtx275!
-
Interesting, but I wouldn't ever want to own an ASUS, sorry.

@cheeseman
ME: looks at quote. looks at question. looks at sig. lols. -
-
Maybe its just me but it seems a lot of alienware customers are single-sided. Why can't they enjoy/respect more than one brand.
Anyways on topic, I hope they do make a non-3D version with switchable graphics and all that goodies. -
-
I really do hope Asus releases a small gaming laptop. Would be interesting. I am tired of these giant gaming laptops. Need smaller ones like the M11x.
-
-
Yet here you are posting in the ASUS section.
If you never had one then you shouldn't judge.
ASUS makes good laptops. -
Asus are too cheap for him. The leftover cash will be too heavy for him to carry home.
-
There is only 2 brands I will never buy. Sony, because i just can't justify the price, and HP because i have never had a HP product work efficiently and without issues. That includes printers, laptops, and Desktops.
I have had Toshiba, Fujitsu, Dell, and Acer, and now have an asus, and the only monir issue is the keyboard is only ok, specially when compared to my old fujitsu and toshiba laptops, they had great keyboards. -
It might be me who's stuck in his old gaming ways but I don't see anything good coming from a laptop with a 3d screen. Don't get me wrong I've been waiting for asus to release a non-ugly 15 inch gaming laptop for a long while, but I fear the 3d gaming screen will make the cost too high.
Nonetheless I have faith in Asus since their products are always nicely priced, and by reading this news I'm more looking forward towards Computex than the E3. -
Besides a 3d gaming package what other options do you guys think the new laptops will have? I'm betting that they'll have at least one USB 3.0 port. There's some rumors that we'll see some non-harddrive addons for USB 3.0 at computex, maybe someone will have started making mice and headsets?
-
I would worry more about the cooling that Asus will offer in their 15" model. The one in the g73jh is a totaly new design but with people reaching temps of 97 celcius I'm not convinced their gpu's will last long (mine started dying after reaching 92-94 Celcius). -
Very interesting!!! I love the asus brand!.
BUT, I highly doubt their machine has better battery life, I have had many asus laptops and the battery wasnt that good. I think they will be able to "match" the performance of the m11x at a cheaper price point. (perhaps they will add some nice OC options). But again... There is something I dont like about ASUS they seem to release a new gaming laptop every week they should STOP...
Cant wait to see this!!.
-
I personaly think 3D gaming on a laptop is just a fad that companies are jumping on because of the new push for 3D HDTV's.
Saying that I still think it will be just a smaller version of the G73 and have a traditinal screen, 3D setup will push the price much higher than most people want to spend on a small laptop.
I predict a epic fail on all 3D laptops. -
-
-
Nothing yet but XoticPC has said there is something in the works.
And Mandrake is one of the few AW owners that don't look down at all other laptops..lol
Then again he just loves laptops for there performance no matter what brand.... I think! -
It really is odd to put 3D on a portable sub 13" (most-likely it will be 11"). The main reason would be portability. For a supposedly gaming netbook; you have to carry 3D glasses. With its tiny screen and baggage you carry; might as well use a 15 incher. I think we can all agree that no-one wants to carry other than the netbook itself on the go. This includes bags, power brick, glasses, a gaming controller?
P.S I have an alienware. Now straying away as I learned about other brands like clevo, msi, etc. -
hehe now asus is really gearing toward portable gaming netbooks hehe
i hope they will follow hints of this prototype design of mine hehehe
asus please make this a reality come computex pls pls pls hehehe -
lol yea a lot of alienware owners are elitist. i used to be, my last laptop was an aurora m9750 <3. i upgraded to my G73jh <3 for both
-
I had a Dell Vostro 1500 for almost 3 years. Great laptop, sturdy and durable in every way.
I was going to get an m11x but the more benchmarks I looked at, the more discouraged I got. That CULV 1.73ghz core 2 duo is not going to work with modern games and is a big bottleneck.
Now, if a manufacturer can get a Quad-core into a 11" case with a decent GFX card, i'm all for it -
I hope they have room in the 15 inch for two hard drives like the earlier g51 series, would love to be able to stick an SSD in there without compromising storage space too much.
-
This thread makes no sense.. Why would they make an 11" 3d gaming laptop? Wouldn't it make more sense, and attract more buyers if it had a 15" screen, or if you're going for portability- 13" screen?
I'm not sure about this 3d thing.. How well will 3d games run on a GPU that can fit in a 13"-11" laptop?
It seems more like a gimmick than a feature.. And a pricey one at that.
All that being said- I really hope it's going to be a 13".. -
Elistist? I've been switching back and forth between Apple and AW. I am not elitist.
On topic, this mystery device has me intrigued. I hope its in retail fast. ROG Stealth look is awesome. I need a business/gaming machine.
I reviewed the VX3. Awesome. -
yeap VX3 with a gt 335m or a GTS 350M would really make my day sob ;,-) huhuhu pls asus hehehe
-
looks like a matte screen too!
-
From what I can tell you're getting your wish. Based on the original TechInStyle.tv posts that every other blog is speculating from, Asus is releasing a Lambo m11x fighter and a G73-shrinked 15 inch 3d gaming laptop. 2 more days till we know for sure

that is why other brand is racing in to get that slice of the pie that alienware is enjoying now with practically no other brand that can compete with the m11x...
that is why it would be beneficial for this 11.6 inch or 12.1 category laptop users to enjoy a proven gaming laptop of such size... with asus now jumping in, i for one would be very happy that other brand will be fielding their own laptop of this class and screen size because a healthy competition is now looming... and at the end of the day, we will be benefited by this... just imagine, more choices, lower prices and outrunning the others with higher specs... it would be an icing to the cake... -
I don't think 11" is a good field to invest in now a days because these 11" laptops are 2" thick and weigh the same as a 15" laptop, and that might deter people who see mobility as light and thin.. Plus for gaming I would assume most people would rather have a larger screen, and in any way this thing is so far away from mainstream that it can't have a large enough market to justify the investment..
It is pretty cool though, and interesting to follow, and I would assume it would become more mainstream once the components become small enough for it to be ~1" thick at least..
You think they'd have to compete with the m11x on its own field (11" screens), but truth is they don't- They can make a 13" gaming laptop and still directly compete with the m11x. -
Capt.Zero I guess your dream has come true.
Hopefully the specs are superior to the M11x. -
I think for these ultraportable gaming laptops, the best is to hook them up to external screen/keyboard/mouse when you want to have the best gaming experience. That's how I would it for gaming.
You can also use it as a work station this way. And when you need real portability, then you just take it and go. Small and powerful. It's good that we can start to see more laptops in this league. -
i just cant wait what they will put on the table... i hope it would be yummy hehehe when i want a very good gaming experience, i dont usually go to 13 inch my friend, i usually go to my 46inch led and with such m11x power, it can really handle any game you cant throw at it...
-
Computex is only a day away so it should be interesting.
ASUS is on a roll and not the sandwhich kind
I hope they put a new Nvidia GPU in this. -
-
And we already know that the only way for asus to compete with the m11x is to come up with something even cheaper. Not that I don't aplaude the comming of these small portbale gaming machines, I just don't have a lot of confidence in the quality that we will get. We know that Asus has still some issues with their cooling systems. If you browse these forums you see that even the g73jh with its new cooling system has a gpu which can reach temps of 97 celcius, not a compforting temp for gaming i'd say. Just imagine what temps we will get with Asus engineers trying to come up with something cheap, in a 11-13 inch package. -
Not all G73 run that hot.
I think ASUS sholud be able to refine there new cooling system.I hope! -

Asus owns the little laptop market with EEE. They can't have Dell going and taking any subnotebook press.
